Yes it does make a difference which state. You can purchase a Do-It-Yourself kit at Barnes & Noble or at Borders. Follow the directions carefully! However, I must recommend that you go see an attorney instead. It really isn't that expensive at all. At most, you'll pay $150.

Technically, you can write your own will. It leaves the doors open to misinterpretation though, and can be easily challenged. You really are better off to have a lawyer draft one for you. In the long run, a couple hundred dollars is not much to spend to be assured your wishes will be carried out after you pass on.

ok now what you are trying to do is a bit suicidal. Firstly if you are making your own will without the use of a lawyer chances are your property may be displaced.. most wills must be registered with the courts and most adhere to certain legislative formalities. what you are trying to create is a secret trust and those types are usually hard to uphold in court ill advise you do it legally and not on your own you may lose alll your property and persons whom you wannt to benefit from it may not get it so do it the safe way do it with a lawyer.

Yes, it makes a difference, and don't do it yourself. If you care enough to make a will, pay enough to get it right.
