Hey, I'd like to ask your opinion about this. Prisoners in most developed countries get television, a gym, payphones, living quarters, all this and more for free. Is this fair? Is it fair that they have basically everything we do for free, except their freedom? Or should the prisons be like in Arizona, where the prisoners wear pink clothes (socks, shorts, underwear, shirts), live out in tents (very hot), and do work daily?(this was in an e-mail i got)
I believe it is fair. Why should people commit a crime, and then basically get a reward for it? They should be punished. Jails are no longer a punishment anymore. They are 'free parking' spaces, where someone gets everything for free. If jailers worked hard everyday, people would try harder not to commit crimes, and our jails would be emptier. Please give your opinion.

I live in San Francisco, California and I work in the IT industry, and after recently starting a new job, my boss asked me if I could travel to Australia & China, but I explained to him that I didn't think I could due to the law that states I must owe $0 to the government.

Anyone out there who's knowledgeable with U.S. law know if a citizen with my circumstances can, in fact, obtain a passport or work visa for employment purposes? If so, how?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I have a few thousand and I am thinking about starting my own law firm. I called the local bar and they said it was a crazy idea to do it and that they would not allow me to join the bar without a degree.

All I need to do is rent an office, get my business paperwork squared away, and open up shop.

I was told I need a letter from the bar association as one of many things in order to get my license to practice law.

According to the 1st Amendment, I can do this. IO would guess the grey area probably would be that I may be breaking a law if I call myself a lawyer. So I would have to call myself "Unlicensed Counsel". But anyone can represent anyone if the judge allows it.

So whats your take on this. Oh, and if you are a lawyer, judge, or anyone who works within the court system, I expect a professional reply.

I live in an apartment that is the back half of a house; my landlord, an eccentric but youthful-looking lady of about 50, lives in the front. She and her "boyfriend," an older black man who's served time for drug-dealing and apparently attempted murder many years ago (though he seems fine - I've often talked to him - and he shovels my walkway), constantly fight and swear in the front apartment. I don't trust him and am fairly sure that he often threatens her (with violence and probably worse), but she won't kick him out (which very much baffles and irritates me). In any case, since I know and often talk to them both, I feel weird calling the cops - though I usually want to - when I hear them fighting. Thoughts? Opinions?

I think that every drug should be available for purchase by anyone of proper age. Its my body, back off, you know? I dont feel it is the government's job to decide what is and is not good for me. People get angry when I say that, but honestly who are you trying to protect by making them illegal, people with no will power? let them worry about it.

One of the questions that I answered the other day has gotten me thinking... The question was about the thought of legalizing marijuana...
The more I thought about it, the more I started thinking about why it is legal for tobacco to be grown and harvested for companies that make cigarettes to add nicotine to it, so that we become addicted to it, when it is a well-known fact that smoking is harmful to your health....but it is illegal to smoke, grow, or possess marijuana???
Marijuana and tobacco both contain tar, which is the agent that causes most of the health related problems that are associated with smoking, but cigarettes also have nicotine in them,,,,which marijuana does not..
Also. marijuana has already been proven to have some benefits to those with certain health problems,,,,but not cigarettes...they have only been proven to cause problems..
This is an honest question..so I would appreciate honest-to-goodness opinions on the subject.. Does anyone else feel as I do??
