so who is opening your mail..............if the post office randomly checks your mail as they can IF they feel it is a suspicious package.............or a family member, if a family member then it more falls into the realms of invading your privacy [ish] age etc etc would be a determining factor here IMO................

I ONLY opened the mail to my kids from their father after he began to say some very nasty things to them and about them so it was more a case of censoring it other than that I know how nice it is to get an actual letter and open it knowing its gossip / news from home etc so would not want to take that away from them.......now my son is serving abroad and I still get most of his mail here I have POA and open and deal with it all here UNLESS it is a personal letter and then just toss in his weekly box to send on. So IF a family member have a chat and see what is said.

Regards

It's supposed to be but I've never heard of one case of opening someone's mail before.

If a stranger goes in your mailbox and opens your mail,or even damages your mailbox, it is a federal offense. If you are talking about a family member opening something, than get real.
