I could not agree more, it is a plant. If my neighbor decided to roll up some Kentucky Blue Grass and smoke it, should I call the cops? Bottom line, what is the difference? The effect must scare a certain type of person, but why? Some mood altering substances are OK, yet others aren't because some government official decides it is so.
Libertarians are the only party I am aware of that advocate legalization of drugs. However, most of you probably would not agree with their other views on domestic and foreign issues. Check it out at....

I understand completely! I think every drug should be legalized and I think I should have a choice if I want to see a doctor or not! I am educated, and I have medical training and I don't want to diagnose myself for a doctor that I have to pay hundreds of dollars to see and have he or she tell me what I already know! I think people are threatened because of the bad publicity that drug use and abuse receives. The D.A.R.E program wastes 875 billion dollars a year on a program that has been shown NOT to work. Ask any criminal justice scholar. All D.A.R.E. does is help politicians show the voters that it works and that they show everyone that they are "tough on crime". Get real. The government doesn't have control on the drugs that came into America. If there isn't any control, do the smart thing and legalize the drugs - it takes the crime out of it and if someone takes and OD and dies - so be it. One less idiot to deal with!

Not everyone, just those who like to control what others do.
As with any other paternalistic law, the idea is that people cannot make decisions for themselves, and cannot take care of themselves, and thus the government must step in and force them to not hurt themselves.
It's pure arrogant control-mongering, by people who don't support the concepts of freedom of choice or personal responsibility. Same reason we have seat-belt laws, and no-trans-fat laws, and all the other rubbish that is in place because individuals don't take responsibility for their own choices.

It's because they have all bought into the hype of the governmental propaganda due to the fact that certain governments don't want to see so called third world nations benefiting from the profit of legalized drugs. So therefore, the homicidal genocidal aspects associated with black marketing drugs continues to run rampant enabled by parties from both sides of the law. Meanwhile, drugs like alcohol and tobacco continue to destroy lives. I completely agree with your statement. Well done. Very few people can think outside of the 'box' like that. Kudos to you!

I agree to a point... if we want the government to "back off", then those who indulge should expect the government to tax their product to pay for the medical costs of "bad-trips" and all the other health problems that follow drug use.
I myself would agree with the legalization of WEED and MUSHROOMS... but then I want EVERY dope-smoker to support MY right to smoke a cigarette in public !! And I want them taxed like any other luxury-product.

Because the Governmetn funds it's proaganda well.... Nobody ever looks at the actual data- some drugs, like heroin and cocane can be VERY harmful. otehrs, like pot, are not even close. Pot is accually good for you if ingested- go figure. The only reason it's illegal is because tobacco companies didn't like the competition.

They feel their children are threatened by it.
But it is the illegality of it that causes that threat to arise, so go Figure.

I just don't want hippies roaming the streets and performing criminal activities.
Even if drugs are legal, the effects they have on a persons behaviour are still there.
Hey, lets legalise drunk and disorderly behaviour while were at it??
