I was talking to my friend, and she said she wasnt allowed to drive anyone anymore becuase a law was passed in Ohio that said if you are under 17 then you can't have more than one person in the car while driving, unless they are family. She said it was all in the newspapers and news, but I haven't even heard anything about it getting passed anywhere. Anyone know if it's true, and if so do you have any proof?

how to handle telemarketers
* Turn on the TV. Change the channel to one that only gets static. Turn the volume up really loud. Say that you can't hear them over the static.

* Make up your own language. Speak it.

* Say, "This phone line is for emergency use only. Do you have an emergency?"

* Order a large pepperoni pizza, some garlic bread, and a meatball sub.

* Dial the phone and say, "Hey! I lent you 50 bucks. You better pay up or else I'm gonna come over there and hurt you! "

* Repeatedly dial the phone. Mutter that it isn't ringing.

* Say, "Moe's tavern Moe speaking."

* Ask him/her if he/she would like a magazine or newspaper subscription.

* Communicate only through Morse code.

* Try to sell the telemarketer something.

* Ask him/her if he/she can smell bacon. Insist that there is a strong scent of bacon over the phone.

* Pretend to be an escaped mental patient. Mutter things like, "They'll never catch me again," "No! Not the jacket! No, no, no!" After saying one of these mutter incoherently.

* Make him/her dance for a sale. Claim that you won't buy because you couldn't see him/her dance.

* Make him/her sing to get a sale.

* Pretend to be really interested. Then say, "No."

* Engage him/her in an "intellectual" conversation on an extremely boring subject.

* Say nothing until he/she hangs up.

* Say, "I told you. I don't know where your dog is!" Then hang up.

* After he/she hangs up, use *69 or Caller ID to get the phone number. Call the telemarketer.

* Ask the telemarketer for his/her home phone number. Claim that you need some time to think, and that you'll get back to them.

A-You lose. There's no tort that protects people from being confined unfairly.
B-You lose because your detention was reasonable. There was a real basis for suspecting that you committed the crime.

My wife's mother, a Nevada resident, passed away in Oct 06. There are 3 heirs, her children. One my wife, a brother who is slightly challenged socially and lived with mom, and a brother who is at best, cutthroat in his dealings. He has done everything to take over the proceeding, including wanting to have a "firesale" on the household while mom was still in her death bed. The will is non-specific, and only says the estate should be divided among the three. It is a small estate, hardly worth a lot of fight, but Mr Cutthroat has hijacked all accounts and documents. He has forced his less savvy brother to sign a paper stating the estate has no bills, and is under $20K, to avoid probate court. The threat was "if he did not sign, then he would get nothing from the estate." This scared him, and being a bit "slow" he signed it, but it is clear that mom left several accounts unpaid, mortgage on mobile hm, and vehicle loan. It is a felony to file false papers. Has Cutthroat broken any laws?

Until New Year's Day, not even her first name was known. Ashley was a faceless case study, cited in a paper by two doctors at Seattle Children's Hospital as they outlined a treatment so radical that it brought with it allegations of "eugenics", of creating a 21st-century Frankenstein's monster, of maiming a child for the sake of convenience.

The reason for the controversy is this: Three years ago, when Ashley began to display early signs of puberty, her parents instructed doctors to remove her uterus, appendix and still-forming breasts, then treat her with high doses of estrogen to stunt her growth.

In other words, Ashley was sterilized and frozen in time, for ever to remain a child. She was only 6 years old.

Ashley, the daughter of two professionals in the Seattle area, never had much hope of a normal life.

I have not found any evidence to prove that he died for any reason except a drug deal gone bad in investigating every single story available about this tragedy. Why do people say it was a "hate" crime when every murder is a "hate" crime, especially that of innocent 13 year old Jesse Dirkhising's??? I want to see the evidence, a statement from the detectives who handled the case, the District or State Attorney's office, the College he attended, or witness or other statements in court records. Can you help me find it?

This is a tough question, follow the link and read the story for details.

A severely brain damaged girl is being given a treatment which will intentionally stunt her growth to "keep her small".

What is your opinion? Is this:

A) a violation of the hippocratic oath, "do no harm", and a violation of the little girl's rights

B) a great way for her parents to "care for" her

C) absolutely no one's business but the doctor and the family

My mother stole an old checkbook from her mother from an account that was closed years ago. She wrote several checks on the account at her workplace (Sam’s Club). When the checks were returned, Sam’s began an investigation and discovered it was my mother who had written the checks. They obviously fired her and are now preparing to bring charges against her. It is my understanding that they are waiting until all the checks are returned, to know exactly what charges to file.

I don’t know anything about criminal law, really. I was wondering what kind of charges my mother will be facing. My grandmother said that she will not press charges for stealing. But what other charges will my mom face? I scrolled through these forums and it seems like it would include fraud, forgery and maybe grand larceny? What are the normal penalties for these crimes?

One other point of interest is that my mother is Bipolar and refuses treatment. Could this affect her case?

Not calling it a search, but that simply entering is fundamentally a search.

I thought about this last night after I saw two high school-age boys get pulled over while I was at work. I don't know why they got pulled over, but they came into the parking lot where I work. A few minutes later, 3 more police cars came by and all of them then proceeded to search the hell out of the car. If somebody gets pulled over in a traffic stop and they don't want to have their car searched, for whatever reasons, couldn't they just get out their license and registration and then lock their car doors, put their car keys in their pocket, and then walk over to the cop to give them their information? If your doors are locked, they wouldn't even be able to get inside your car without your keys, and you don't legally have to give your keys to the officer and they would have to get a warrant like they're supposed to (I've had many a friend get pulled over and had their car searched without a warr.). So would this work, do you legally have to stay in your car when you get pulled over?

Yesterday my mother was driving straight towards the West and her light was green. The light was red on the north to south line however a Korean driver managed to hit the left side of our car...you know the left side pasenger door. After the accident, he came out and started making crazy insults and saying that we ran a red light when his light was red....that didn't make much sense. It was a neighboorhood street and we know he was in his cell phone.

We already got a lawyer...but I'm just very very scared....if a driver hits the side of your car in the senerio I've just described...does this hit indicate his at fault....FOR EXAMPLE...i know that insurance companies usually give fault to the car who rear ends the other car i.e. if you hit them with the front of your car you most likely will get fault.....DOES MY MOM's hit indiate fault on the Korean driver.....he started to scare us with all the "I'm going to sue you....look at what you did to my BMW"

help this man is crazy....

in prisons, criminals get healthcare, cable tv, free food and clothes, college, counceling and many amenities that the hard working, law abiding citizen cannot afford.
also the victims of crimes are brushed aside to make sure the criminals have ample legal representation and superior rights.

There is a business in my community that has been denied a liquor license twice because of the business that was there before them had alot of trouble with police being called. It was a club. This is a club too. This new business has decided that since they were not granted a liquor license only because of the history of another business...they would approach it in another way....they now have a BYOB. You are able to take your own alochol into this establishment and the only way that the police can enter is if they have reason to believe that something illegal is going on. IF they had a liquor license then police could enter anytime!! DID THE GOVERNMENT "cut off their noses to spite their face"? In other words...were they punishing this new business because the police didn't want to have to do their jobs? Does it make sense for people to be able to take their own alcohol into this place? Is this not asking for trouble?

I sat in our town's community court the other day for 2 solid hours waiting to pay a ticket for my cats licences, they were 3 day's late ($60 fine plus $30 court cost and $40 for the 2007 licences). I watched 60 different people being called in on the carpet for minor crimes like mine. At one point I was counting the money they were taking in and I lost count at $16,600. I'm sure by the end of the evening our little government looted well over 25K from the very people that pay their salaries. The judge is the city manager, the prosucutor works for the city as well as the numerous cops. No one brought up the fact these people are all on the same team..they are all eating from the same public bucket. I am outraged...I am going to fight these bureacrats...will you fight with me? I mean Fed, Stae, Local...they people need to be put in their place.

Agree or disagree?

I asked earlier about the Protective Order because my better half and I got into a fight where I ended up getting the police involved. Well although I was the victim the both of us got arrested for it. In court the next day we were assigned to Family Services. Then the judge put the Protective Order in place which meant that I had to leave my place of dwelling. The judge said that if we wanted to change the status of the order or drop it to let him know. About a month or so later on the day before our next court date my better half invited me back to their place in order to work things out. I had thought that the order was lifted because of being invited and also because Family Services had asked me if I wanted keep the Order in which I said "no" and they told me that anything that I request or say would be told to the court for consideration. I did'nt know, ended up at the house got arrested thanks to a neighbor complaining about my car, and well how serious is this? Jail? Fine?
