I sat in our town's community court the other day for 2 solid hours waiting to pay a ticket for my cats licences, they were 3 day's late ($60 fine plus $30 court cost and $40 for the 2007 licences). I watched 60 different people being called in on the carpet for minor crimes like mine. At one point I was counting the money they were taking in and I lost count at $16,600. I'm sure by the end of the evening our little government looted well over 25K from the very people that pay their salaries. The judge is the city manager, the prosucutor works for the city as well as the numerous cops. No one brought up the fact these people are all on the same team..they are all eating from the same public bucket. I am outraged...I am going to fight these bureacrats...will you fight with me? I mean Fed, Stae, Local...they people need to be put in their place.

Agree or disagree?

Disagree. You screwed up. It's quite likely that many of the cities in the US are just like yours filled with graft and nepotism. The main way to beat it is not to break the law. Your mistakes fund these people. Don't break the law and these people wouldn't have any money. I hope I'm not insulting you many people do the same thing when they smoke, drink, gamble. They all pay to support the families of political garbage. The more off the grid you are the less money they will have. Fight the Power.

I live in New Jersey where the Municipal court judges hear all minor crimes and DMV tickets. The municipal courts employees are all paid from the fine they collect. To make there budget you must be found guilty.

Talking about a system stack up against you! It's impossible to win.

And our elected officials wonder why people are anti-government.

Yes I agree, and the most effective means for dealing with them is the ballot box. Not just your vote, but a few weeks before election day start a campaign, even if small, of informing the other voters of these peoples' excesses. Enlist as many of your friends and relatives in this cause as you can. The only way to affect these people is to threaten their jobs. Ronw

the only way to create change is to elect people who are willing and capable of making changes to benefit the people.
Unfortunately, until we as a people can get past this whole Democrat vs Republican seperation, most people will continue to vote for their "party" rather than vote for the person most qualified. It is time that we all unite and vote for the right person, based on his merit and things he has done in the past, not what party he is affiliated with.
I would like to see change, but as the old saying goes, "united we will stand, devided we will fall", and right now this country is as divided as it gets.

You paid for a fine for being late to pay a cat licence???
Did you ever think that you could have bought a gun with the $130. 00 you paid. And if the cat Nazis came, you could serve them up a little bit of God's justice?
VOTE, make others aware. Tell the government that we aren't cash cows to their PC stupidity.

Honestly, you broke the law and had to pay for it... Deal...

However, I'm a big fan of people taking action. If you feel your fine was unfair, try and change the law. Petition local level government officials to help you.

YOU can change your government by writing a one page newsletter using your computer, then distributing those fact sheets and YOU must run for a local political office.
