in prisons, criminals get healthcare, cable tv, free food and clothes, college, counceling and many amenities that the hard working, law abiding citizen cannot afford.
also the victims of crimes are brushed aside to make sure the criminals have ample legal representation and superior rights.

I can't even add to that since I totally agree. I need some dental work. I think I'll rob a bank. If I get caught I'll get my dental work. If I don't get caught I can afford my dental work or I'll just keep on paying taxes so the inmates can be taken care of while I dream of getting dental work.

Actually, life in prison isn't as "Glamorous" as the media likes to have society believe it is. They do not get all sorts of free things handed to him. They have their minimum basic needs met and the family of the inmates have to pay for everything else. If an inmate wants college, the family pays. If the inmate needs shampoo and soap, family pays. If the inmate needs shoes, the family pays. It is amazing how much our money is being misused by the prisons. Also medical and dental care is not easily obtainable once you are in prison.

Many people in prison are not given proper punishment for their crimes. An "Eye for an Eye" is appropriate in some situation. If a person had tortured and killed people and there is enough evidence, then, I feel they should get what is coming to them. But if a person is in prison for driving without a license, how do you match a sentence?

There are people in prison who are in there because they were wrongfully convicted. A large percentage are people who are in there for not breaking the law, but in there for a probation violation.

Many people are in there who needs help and not to be locked up. For instance, instead of locking a person up who has a drug addiction, why not help them get into a good rehabilitation program? Most people cannot afford health care, but it would be cheaper to treat the problem instead of wasting tax payer's money on locking them up. But if the person has gone out and did drugs after rehabilitation, then lock them up.

Anyways, I could go on and on, but I'll leave it at that.

You make jail sound like a picnic; it's not.
We live in a civilized society that has a problem with "an eye for an eye" in that punishing a violent act with another violent act doesn't really make sense. An "eye for an eye" is kind of contradictory because it calls for killing someone because they killed. If killing is wrong, then it's wrong. It doesn't become right because it's in retaliation, or done by the state.
While I agree that victims of crimes should be treated better, I have no problem with people being accused of crimes having proper legal representation. It would be a huge stepbackwards if you could be thrown in jail for no reason or on the whim of someone with a little power.

~You have an illusion that prisoners are treated well. They aren't. The reason "an eye for an eye" is not supported is because it's in the OLD TESTAMENT. Read the New Testament before making such accusations.~

An eye for an eye leaves everyone blind.

I believe Thomas Jefferson said that.

Liberalism in action. Its the liberal way of thinking "they arent *bad*, just misunderstood, abused as childern, poor, etc., etc...

We need to make prison a place of *punishment* again.
