my landlord has apparently gotten into a disagreement with a friend of mine who visits me at my apartment. one day he saw my friend hanging out here and told him to leave, and afterwards he confronted me and said that my friend was not allowed to be here. my landlord is very nosy and hangs around the building all the time, doing "work". my friend is polite and causes no disturbances. does my landlord have any right to ban people from the space i am renting from him, and do i risk eviction if i ignore his request? this is in the state of maine.

Just a little thought below. What are your opinions? I personally think Marijuana is no better and no worse than alcohol. I think the government could use OUR money more efficiently and more effectively...

By legalizing this drug, the government would save the money it currently spends fighting the war on marijuana. The federal government spends $19.2 billion every year in fighting the war on drugs; state governments combined spend $77.8 billion every year in this effort. Conservatively estimated, 20 percent of the government's war on drugs expenditures goes toward marijuana. Assuming that Washington state spends one-fiftieth of the states' combined expenditure, this means we spend somewhere around $300 million to fight marijuana.

The father of my daughter has failed to pay child support ever since my daughter was born, now she is 13 yrs old and I have decided that it has been enough and put him on child support, for the last month he has kept up with payments, though last week he called me and told me that he wasn't going to pay anymore because he was leaving to Dominican Republic he threatened me by saying that if he was in any way prevented to leave or come back to the country he would kill me my concerns are, What happens to him if he comes back to the country?
Will he ever pay?

The husband of 18 years filed Nullity of Marriage of the grounds that he was previously married and stipulated that since I am not the legitimate wife, I am not entitled to any conjugal shares and wanted me out of our home which I halped built and my name to be erased in all the land titles. I am now contemplating to file a BIGAMY case against him based on his own admission and under oath in his affidavit in filing the Nullity of marriage. Lawyers have different views on this since some said only the first wife can file bigamy.

If you've seen my last few questions, you know my situation, but I'll explain it again.

My girlfriend, who lives 5 hours away from me in another state, is abused by her parents....

My question is, if she could get her therapist to convince a judge that it is not right for her to continue living with them, could they put her in the custody of one of her other relatives (an aunt, uncle, etc.)? Foster care would not be good for her, she needs to be with someone she knows, just not her parents, who abuse her.

Also, what would it be like in her house before the court date, if they decided to? She wouldn't be able to stay in her home... is there a place they would be able to keep her sheltered until she would be taken in by the other party?

Thanks in advance. Preferably, I'd like answers from people with legal knowledge and/or links to references.

Is it legal in TX for a woman to hit a child with a wooden spoon to discipline them? I saw this the other day and I think it was horrible. I've never seen ANYTHING like this in Ireland (moved here a year ago)

My answer was recently selected as best answer to a religion v death penalty question. It prompted me to ask this. Many people are adamently opposed to the death penalty, as one person put it "instutionalized killing IE: the death penalty is still murder." I want to hear from people who are in favor of and those opposed to the death penalty. What are your views on abortion? Do you support the death penaty but oppose abortion? Do you support a woman's right to choose? If so does that necessarily mean you are a proponent of abortion? If you support the right to abortion are you opposed to the death penalty? If you are in favor of one & opposed to the other can you explain the legal, moral, and personal difference?

Why is it that a murder suspect can be found innocent in criminal court but then guilty in civil court?

Such as in the OJ Simpson murder case.

Thanks

Wasn't sodomy legalized? I'm a bit confused though, because I just heard of a case where a woman was raped, so they charged the man with both rape and sodomy. It's very unfortunate, but does that meant that sodomy is still a crime? Is it only legal when it's between two consenting adults?
