My answer was recently selected as best answer to a religion v death penalty question. It prompted me to ask this. Many people are adamently opposed to the death penalty, as one person put it "instutionalized killing IE: the death penalty is still murder." I want to hear from people who are in favor of and those opposed to the death penalty. What are your views on abortion? Do you support the death penaty but oppose abortion? Do you support a woman's right to choose? If so does that necessarily mean you are a proponent of abortion? If you support the right to abortion are you opposed to the death penalty? If you are in favor of one & opposed to the other can you explain the legal, moral, and personal difference?

I oppose neither the death penalty or abortion.

I feel that there should be an ultimate price that one should pay for committing the worst of crimes. In a perfect world the punishment of death would deter others from doing something that would qualify them to such a fate, but it is not a perfect world.

As for abortion, I feel that a woman has a right to choose what is going to happen with her body, and no one has a right to tell her otherwise. Again in a perfect world, women would not use abortion as a means of birth control, but again it is not a perfect world. And if you try to prevent those women from using abortion as birth control, then women who have a real need for an abortion(due to medical reasons, rape, etc.) would be the ones to suffer, so there is no real way to limit who can get an abortion. I guess the only answer is to try to educate women and men better about safe sex, and contraception.

Murder is still murder, whether it be the death penalty or abortion. I am against both. Why is death the only punishment that we can think of in this day in age. Many people have been imprisioned even when innocent, would murdering an innocent person still give the victims / victims relatives peace of mind or would they then feel the burden of having a death on their mind. Taking a life does not justify taking another. Rehabilation is there for all, who are we to decide which crime decerves the D.P, which is worse murder, rape, abduction or abusing a child? All are serious crimes and deserve harsh punishments but death is not the answer. Surely the governments can think of some other form of punishment, for some death is a way of escaping their crimes and NOT punishment. Does killing the criminal really provide any peace of mind of justice??

Abortion is murder, killing of an innocent being. Whether it is a few weeks old or a couple of months. There are several ways for women to protect themselves and is no excuse for getting pregnant, if it is not wanted. How can anyone justify getting rid or aborting the child? What about the fathers' right, is that even thought about? Some men could go their whole lives without even knowing that a former partner that once carried their child, no matter how long it was for. Operations can go wrong are who can tell if this may stop your chances of ever having a child. Having the right to choose whether or not you think you are ready for a child is one thing, but willing killing it because you did not take the right precautions are your own fault. By using abortions as a way out we are telling teenagers it is ok to make a mistake and not carry the responsibitly is wrong. Growing up they should learn there is some things you can not take back. If it ruins their life, they should have thought about that before they leapt into bed together. I can not understand how anyone can justify Murdering their unborn child, just because it was a mistake or they were just not ready for a baby. Pathetic. If you are not ready for a child, practice safe sex or not at all.

I am definately for the Death Penalty. But not before DNA tests are always run. This is punishment for a severe crime.

I am anti-abortion, which is the murder of your innocent first baby. I would pray after a women had one abortion they would never have another. Although I have heard of women having 3 or 4 abortions as if it were birth control. This is really sick. I am very 50 50 on the pro choice aspect.

I just would like to think that we all have some self control and comprehend birth control. But apparently that is not the case..

I am for the death penalty because I believe the severity of the punishment should match the severity of the crime.

If and when Roe v. Wade is reversed (and other matters of constitutional confusion are clarified) I will then be quite willing to cast my vote for legalized abortion. I am willing to let women make the choice prior to fetal viability. A large part of the reason why I am willing to allow it is simply because I want the screeching harpies to stop saying "Keep your laws off my body!" Every time I see or hear that expression it's like fingernails on a chalkboard. Of course, that's the point of saying it; it's meant to be intimidating. And I have my own intellectual reason, too, for why I am willing to tolerate abortion. But my cowardice ("Please stop screeching those words!") is a large part of it.

But Roe v. Wade has to be reversed. It was a lie about the Constitution. Even Prof. Alan Dershowitz has written and publicly said that Roe v. Wade was not a legitimate example of what the Supreme Court is supposed to do when it "interprets" the Constitution. And unless it IS overturned, I don't see any point in voting.

I am in favor of the death penalty. I favor it because there are some crimes so heinous and no chance for redemption of the criminal. These people made a conscious choice to murder/rape etc. They deserve their fate. (I am not speaking of manslaughter or self defense etc).

I am opposed to abortion (with very limited exceptions). The child here is a victim of someone else's stupidity. The child was conceived because the two responsible for creating this life were too ignorant to use contraceptives (most of the time. --I know contraceptives can and do fail.)

How anyone can condemn an innocent baby to death for no fault of it's own, but grant leniency to those who willfully harm others is beyond my comprehension!

To start with, might I say, well worded for such a sensitive question/set of questions.

I think that there are cirumstances in which an abortion could be forgiveable (IE rape/incest/severe risk to health of mother), though I still think in at least the first of those situations, the woman should still consider other options first. In any other circumstance, I believe it is simply murder. I don't understand how it can possibly be legal anywhere, considering my aforementioned statement.

I also believe that the death penalty is murder, no matter the nature of the crimes for which it is considered punishment. It does nothing to right the wrongs preceding it.

1. Abortion is something that I consider "a woman's personal right to choose."

2. no

3. yes, I support a woman's right to choose

4. no, I support a woman's right to choose. Every woman has the right to choose whether or not she will keep the child that was conceived during sexual intercourse. If she chooses to keep it after thinking things through, then good for her. If she chooses to abort the fetus after weighing out her options and coming to the conclusion that it would be in her best interest to abort, that is her right. It is her CHOICE.

5. no, I am not opposed to the death penalty

6. I am not in favor of one over the other. I believe in a woman's right to choose; and I believe that if a person committed a crime that deems them unworthy of living among the rest of human kind, they should be "awarded" the death penalty.

I feel that anyone who murders someone else should be given ONE chance to reform. This goes for rapists, child molesters, and any other hanus crime committed against another human being. If they show that they are unable to live among the human race and are unable to cease causing harm to an innocent person, they should be put to death.

Morals, I like to follow the golden rule: treat others as you would like to be treated. The bible and common human judgment allow me to decide what is moral and what is not. For instance, I don't have to be religious to know that having a common courtesy for my fellow man will allow for better relationships all around.

I am in favor of the death penalty for the people who inflict such grief onto another person/persons by means of murder, child rape (or any rape), torturing another person, etc... Those people aren't safe in society. They will do it to someone again & again as long as they are free. And why should our tax dollars pay to give those lowlives a roof over their heads & free cable?

I am opposed to abortion, but I will not lecture anyone. It's your life & ultimately your decision. My opposition to it & my acceptance of the death penalty has one big difference. The baby is innocent. The rapist/murderer isn't. The baby's soul is pure & did nothing wrong, so didn't ask to die. The murderer had a choice.

I am for the death penalty, even though i think its really harsh, but some people had it coming.
I am Pro-Life on abortion, I believ that when you abort a fetus, that fetus was alive since the second egg was fertilized, ask any biologist, it is killing an innocent creature that had no way to choose for itself. But i think it is okay to abort if having the baby is a risk to the mother's health.
