Ooo, walking on thin ice with this topic, but here goes.
If a woman becomes pregnant as a result of rape, I think it could be something positive coming from something negative. The woman could put the child up for adoption if raising it herself is too painful.
If a woman doesn't have the mental capacity to raise a child, she probably won't have proper understanding of how to take care of a foetus either. So unless she has help with dietary needs, etc., abortion could be an option. After birth, adoption is of course the only option.
When basic necessities can't be provided, adoption is of course the best option. However, if the woman is young (teen) it may be better for her (and the future child) if an abortion was performed.
It's a tough decision when it comes to transmittable diseases. There are medications, that can help you live with the disease. But if money isn't available to pay for them (very costly), abortion would be deemed acceptable (in my opinion).
I would say another consideration would be if the foetus has severe deformities or an illness. You'd have to weigh the quality of life factor here.
Women do and should have the right to choose. However, some take the issue too lightly.

I personally am against abortion in any situation...
that said, I feel it is up to the individual whether to terminate a pregnancy in a rape case or STD's or for economical reasons.
As for the mental capacity that would rest on the family members involved with the welfare of the handicapped person and the Dr. concerning the patients ability, mental and health. There are children born of mentally handicapped women that are normal in every way and if the child were raised by loving adoptive parents I see no reason way the pregnancy should be terminated.

Well ever since I was young I was taught to believe abortion is wrong. You could always set the child up for adoption, someone out there would be willing to take care of a child whether or not they have something wrong with them or not. But I suppose it's a good thing that it's legal because people would do it illegally if the had to. I guess it depends on what you believe or not. Maybe if you had cancer and if you waited to have the baby it would be too late for you to start treatments.

None of the circumstances you mention are the unborn child's fault, and the child does not deserve to be killed for any of them. The murder of innocent human beings is always wrong. For more information, see:

Well, it all comes down to who defines "necessary and acceptable".
Face it -- someone is going to make those decisions, and draw those lines. Somebody is going to choose. It's either going to be the individual, or it's going to be the majority (through enacted laws). If the majority gets to choose, then they are effectively imposing their belief system -- which is almost always religiously-based -- on everyone.
So, the real question becomes, do you think the government should draw those lines, and enforce them against everyone, or do you think the individual should be allowed to choose.
The concept of reproductive freedoms is not whether you agree with the individual choices being made. It's whether you think the government should have the right to take away and mandate those choices.
Why can't people understand that freedom of choice is not a minority value, even if the majority happens to disagree with the minority's choice?

My opinion seems to differ from most on this question. Not that I am 100% Pro-Choice, but I believe that every female on the face of this planet is entitled to one mistake. They are also entitled to "fix" that mistake while they can. Men are able to fix their mistakes whenever they feel, they just walk away! The woman, however, will be stuck with their mistake for a lifetime. Yes, I believe in abortion. ONE. Each woman should be en tittled to one abortion in their lives. The women who use this as a form of birth control should be fixed permanently. Then they wouldn't have to worry about babies at all.
Yes, every woman should be entitled to ONE abortion. NO MORE! One should make her learn her lesson! Thanks

i am pro life. i do not believe abortion should be used as a means of birth control.
if you cannot be responsbile for raising a child due to socio-economic reasons .. then you should not be having sex.
if you do not have the mental capacity to effectively raise a child ... then you should not be having sex.
if you have AIDS or other STDs that are able to be transferred to a baby ... then you should not be having unprotected sex. you can choose sterilization.
if a woman is raped ... this is different to me. i have been violated in such a horrific manner and i can't imagine having to deal with a pregnancy in this situation. my logical mind knows it's not the child's fault ... but would a woman ever truly bond with that child? i don't know it's hard for me to say. i don't know what i would do .... personally ... but this is the ONE and only situation that i would not condemn a woman for having an abortion.

When a woman becomes pregnant as a result of rape or the child would be a product of incest....& the rapist &/or "family member" should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law (NO statutes of limitation)

I'm not sure you'd say it's necessary, but I stand by a woman's right to chose to have an abortion, so the last option, I suppose.
