"surplus" citizenship already within the United States? Demographically speaking, do you think the United States already has a surplus of "cheap" labor?

I realize that the bill is dead, but there are still very similar bills which are proposing the same ideas. Many illegal aliens go onto break laws like ID theft and document forgery once they come into this country...as well as trashing National Parks. My question is why this government was so willing to give amnesty for any laws that the illegal aliens broke, while incarcerating US citizens for the same crime?

Some of my relatives/ancestors moved to Cuba from Europe after the slave trade was outlawed to avoid being thrown in jail but I can't find anyone in Northern Spain that has this name. The closest I can find is "Benavides". My sister says we are "creolle" or something like that from Northern Spain. Sorry for being so ignorant about my heritage...but I want to find out. Also when I went to Spain I noticed that I was white as hell as compared to other Spaniards ESPECIALLY in the south. I looked albino compared to them :) Please help...thanks.

Conclusion to previous question on why would you come here for work? Some answers were because of higher wages?

30.5% of people here are of higher income level.
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/us.html

35.6% of people in Mexico are of higher income level.
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/mx.html

Higher wages is not an excuse that works with facts. So really, why would you come here for work?

i'm not an immigrant but i'm hispanic and I, like many others support all the immigrants legal and illegal, they have come here to work and provide for their families. they don't come for hand outs, they come to earn their money.

you keep complaining about how they cost the government money, but what about all the money they lose on taxes and can't claim back at the end of the year, they are the reason why our economy is doing good.

http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw4.pdf
the government asks for a social security number to be placed on your pre-hire forms.. illegals do not have this number.. so the argument i hear often, is that illegals just put some random numbers down....
26 USC Section 7206(1)
Anyone who willfully makes and subscribes any return, statement, or other document, which contains or is verified by a written declaration that it is made under the penalties of perjury, and which he does not believe to be true and correct as to every material matter shall... be guilty of a felony and, upon conviction thereof, shall be fined not more than $5,000, or imprisoned not more than 3 years, or both, together with the costs of prosecution.

So not only is it impossible for them to pay taxes, if they are paying taxes, they are once again breaking ANOTHER LAW.

According to Snopes, 40% of undocumented are paid in cash, not in a regular check with deductions. That means 60% of them are paid with a check and have the same deductions

The minutemen site (obviously biased) states that it is 62% that are paid in cash.

So, respectively, 38 - 60% of them are, in fact, paying taxes on their income.

Plus, they pay taxes when they buy a home, a car. They pay taxes when they purchase anything from a store. Sales tax is paid. They pay property taxes if they own a home. They pay tolls on our roads, they buy gas from our stations, they pay for entrance into ball games, six flags, water parks, etc. They pay for dinner out, for party supplies, food, groceries, and clothing. They pay for electricity and gas, water and sewer.

While 38-60% is a fairly low number, it means that about half of them DO PAY TAXES. And, by both sites agreement, those that don't are nearly always migrant workers, and, are only in the country for a couple months

I met my fiance while living in Greece(he is Tanzanian and i am English). We lived togeather there for 2 years. I am now back home in England while he is home in Tanzania-i have been over 4 times in the past year. I am going over again in September and he is applying then for a UK visa. We have a problem though i think--during his time in Greece, he spent 3 months in prison on cannabis charges(wrong place, wrong time). That was 2 years ago.

It almost seems like its split half and half one way or the other----deport them all, or bring more of them in......why is that?

Some of you on here oppose giving visa's to SOME of the illegal immigrants here already.I read questions all the time how none of them are any good. How all crime is committed by illegals etc. etc.So why would you object to giving someone decent a chance if there aren't that many decent ones?Wouldn't the process of applying at least give us some leverage as to locating and deporting these bad individuals?Or are you afraid there are more good ones than bad?

I know the following is rare, but please consider the scenario and tell me what you think.
Bob came into the US illegally. He was two years old and was brought in by his mother. Obviously, he had no choice in doing what they did.
He went to public school. During high school, Bob excelled in all of his classes. He took AP courses and graduated within the top 10% of his class. He got into college. He graduates college again with honors and receives his degree in science. All throughout his life, he has had no criminal record whatsoever.
Although now has a degree, he cannot work because of his legal status.

Would you consider Bob an asset to the US? In your opinion, should he have the opportunity to become legal and work in his area of study? Again the scenario is rare, but I would like to know your opinions on it.

Thanks.

. . Someone just posed a question about fishing licenses. Here's a true story. My husband and I are avid sport fishermen. We were in our boat lobster diving in the Keys when I kid you not, a helicopter hovered over our boat, and demanded through a bull horn to see our fishing licenses. Not one, but three agents came down a rope, boarded our boat, and physically inspected the licenses to make sure they were valid. My husband was underwater at the time, so I was alone with my four-year-old son in the boat. We were playing "I Spy" - neither of looked dubious in any way. So my question is, why can't cops ask to see identification papers of people who are reasonably suspected of being illegal? P.S. our boat was searched for proper equipment as well . . .

From his side it's the wind of change in the immigration laws which lately have made it impossible for him to stay after his studies...

I support amnesty for illegals who don't commit other crimes. And harsh penalties for companies who exploit illegals. But, regardless of how you feel about US Immigration Law, any reasonable person would have to say that these laws go too far

1. There will be no special bilingual programs in the schools, no special ballots for elections, and all government business will be conducted in our language.

2. Foreigners will NOT have the right to vote, no matter how long they are here.

3. Foreigners will NEVER be able to hold political office.

4. Foreigners will not be a burden to the taxpayers. No welfare, no food stamps, no health care, nor any other government assistance programs.

5. Foreigners can invest in this country, but it must be an amount equal to 40,000 times the daily minimum wage.

6. If foreigners do come and want to buy land, that will be okay, BUT options will be restricted. You are not allowed to own waterfront property.

They took guns and now reside there against the people's will.Every day they hear shouts of go home but they stay anyway. Some have been busted for bringing drugs into the country. Some have been tried for murder of citizens.Does that make ALL American soldiers bad?Does naming the invasion WAR make it right?Do you stand up against this illegal invasion?I don't hear your cries to deport on this invasion.I wish you would.I want my sons home. Can you answer any of the above questions please?

Stop being so catholic and so conservative. I am a catholic as well, but I believe in the saying "live and let live". Who are you to tell the gay people that they can't marry? The catholic religion is not the only one, and seperation of church and state is necessary. Who are you to tell women who got raped that they can't get an abortion(or any woman for that matter). And lasty, who are you to tell people where they can or cannot immigrate. Im talking about the undocumented ones. If they want to move to another country and not exploit it(and most really dont) then let them. Dont let your old fashioned or religious views get in the way. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Respect the other person's decision to do what they do and dont judge them. Forget about immigration, and worry about important topics such as government corruption or global warming.
