Some of my relatives/ancestors moved to Cuba from Europe after the slave trade was outlawed to avoid being thrown in jail but I can't find anyone in Northern Spain that has this name. The closest I can find is "Benavides". My sister says we are "creolle" or something like that from Northern Spain. Sorry for being so ignorant about my heritage...but I want to find out. Also when I went to Spain I noticed that I was white as hell as compared to other Spaniards ESPECIALLY in the south. I looked albino compared to them :) Please help...thanks.

No can't be Cuban because all my ancestors are from Europe (DNA test).

according to that, your last name is not celtic. but i looked it up in yahoo and google and came up with many references to cuban people and businesses, so i would assume that your name simply has cuban heritage and that's that.

It sure doesn't sound Celtic or Gaelic! (Though there are some names that are a surprise).
My gut feeling is the name sounds like it originates from the Baltic states (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia etc). I knew a Kutavides from Estonia (and I've heard similar names from that region).
But then name has little to do with origin in some cases. My name is Irish and they make up about 20% of my family. There's Swiss, German, English, Welsh, Australian Aborigine and Norwegian components of the history.
And yes the Mormons have some good info and so do many other sites. Do a google for 'genealogy sites'.

The Mormon church has a very good source in genealogy you can check your name with them to try to find your family tree. it is probably correct that your family name in Benavidez.
"creolle" Creole ,is French in origin and the close proximity of France and Spain could provide an explanation, do not let the color of skin fool you in my family there are blue and green eyed blonds, all shades of brown to the Indio almost black.
