I met my fiance while living in Greece(he is Tanzanian and i am English). We lived togeather there for 2 years. I am now back home in England while he is home in Tanzania-i have been over 4 times in the past year. I am going over again in September and he is applying then for a UK visa. We have a problem though i think--during his time in Greece, he spent 3 months in prison on cannabis charges(wrong place, wrong time). That was 2 years ago.

This is definatly a No No.Even though he was found innocent after 3 months inside it is on record.Even so a person from Tanzania will always find it difficult to live in the UK and get a proper Visa. You asked the impossible question this is the answer call it a day you will get badly hurt and we dont want that for you.More you go to him the worse matters will be for you, just try for once and say no you carnt make it and see what happens.

Hi.

If he was found not guilty, then his time inside should make no difference. By the way, could he get any compensation for his time falsely locked up?

You should keep as much evidence as possible of your time living together in Greece - photos, joint bills, etc - and of your continuing contact. You can either get married in Africa, and then he would apply for a spouse visa, or he could apply for a fiance visa to get married here. With the spouse visa, he woud be able to work as soon as he arrives.

You would need to show that you can support and accommodate him without access to public funds. If this is in anyway a problem, you should consult an immigration specialist to see how you might get additional sponsorship, for example from your parents. I would advise that you get legal guidance in any case.

After two years of marriage in the UK, he could apply for permanent stay (Indefinite Leave to Remain).

Wrong place wrong time?

If you live with a criminal, you will lead the life of a gangsters moll.

See if permanent emigration to Tanzania is ok by him. If not, you have your answer.
