Some of you on here oppose giving visa's to SOME of the illegal immigrants here already.I read questions all the time how none of them are any good. How all crime is committed by illegals etc. etc.So why would you object to giving someone decent a chance if there aren't that many decent ones?Wouldn't the process of applying at least give us some leverage as to locating and deporting these bad individuals?Or are you afraid there are more good ones than bad?

I oppose giving amnesty to illegals because if we give it to them now, 20 years from now, we're going to have 40 million illegals asking for the same thing. History tends to repeat itself (i.e. remember Reagan's amnesty of '86?). Our govt hasn't shown us that immigration laws can be enforced. So why bother with a new one which rewards the illegals already here?

To me I base a large part of this issue on unemotional numbers.

To you it seems we must try to let all the "good" ones in and give them amnesty. How we would do this and who would be the decider on who is a good person would be of course a quandary.

This country is already over 300 million. Without ANY amnesties we will likely be at 400 million within 30-40 years because we allow more immigration then ever in our history. By the time our young children are elderly we might possibly be at 500 million. These are numbers that scare me for the future of our country. NO country can withstand that kind of population growth without severe issues and changes to every ones standard of living.

Every absolutely necessary thing that we need that is not in unlimited supply will be priced out of the reach of most normal citizens. Every time our energy suppliers ram another price hike down our throats they cry supply/demand. Gasoline Co's say the same thing. We can only up supplies so much and when demand outstrips supply we are heading into shortages - not a pretty picture.

To answer your question in general... No. Not of the ones who are legitimate with regards of coming here. Even I know that one has to take the number in figures, and calculate a certain percentage from those numbers as the Bad Apples. I learned that working for businesses that dealt with percentage numbers on a daily basis. It could always be reliable to take 20 percent of the total, and come awfully close to which was not productive or useful.

So let's say that there is 20 million illegals are here in the US. About 4 million of them are Bad Apples.

If there are 12 million here in the US, then there is 2,400,000 Bad Apples.

But another reward for illegals will just be another sign that again this was OK, and we'll do more of nothing to stop it. I'm tired of feeling like a hostage from by both our government, and from the illegals who are here demanding rights that no other country would allow them to have. I'm tired of our government having Americans laid at the feet of illegals to be the welcome mats at our front doors for them to wipe their feet on. For 40 years they have been allowed to do this. Allowing the good and the bad apples And I say it's time to have it stopped by not rewarding anymore. The rewards come from entering the country by legal means.

And to my little haters, and people who disagree... Hugs. cause you need love too.

added: Teddy Bear?!! Well I've heard that you're quite the nice puppy. I somehow now believe that you are one fiesty kitten.

I don't mind them hate'n. Cause I'm only state'n. I've been through bad days too. So I can relate. All I'm saying is that I disagree with them. I can't hate them until I get to know them.

To me it isn't a matter of fearing the people already in the US. Most actually do live by the law once inside the country's boarders. To me it has ALWAYS been a matter of respect of law from the beginning.
Those within the US illegally have broken the law, and disrespected the US laws concerning the proper ways of entering the country. It is NOT a race issue as so many want to make it.
I have a friend who has gone through all the red tape and bureaucracy to be in the US legally who is treated the same as those here illegally in some cases, and to me, THAT is the REAL crime. The US should be rewarding those people who come here the right way, and withholding ALL services to those who have broken the law.

Most people do not think "all crime is committed by illegals." That's not true. All illegals, however, are committing a crime.

People don't say they are all "bad." They are DOING SOMETHING VERY BAD!

However, people appropriately say that they shouldn't be here since they are breaking the law. You can not be an honest decent person if you blatantly break the law.

However, if they are here ILLEGALLY, they are breaking the law. I call that being a criminal. Criminals break the law. What part of ILLEGAL is so hard to understand?

ILLEGAL = Breaking the law, bad actions
LEGAL = welcome to America

People may give me a thumbs down for this but it doesn't make my statement less true. I state things based on facts and the law. I don't use emotion in my comments!

The problem with giving visas to illegals that are already here is that there are people waiting in their homelands for those visas that have a legal right to them under the current immigration regulations. These are people that followed the law and are waiting to gain admittance into this country- they did not barge in and demand anything, they have followed the law and should be given 1st priority.
The rights law abiding would be immigrants have to those visas you wish to give to illegals is undeniable if their visas are approved after they have applied from their homeland - they receive visas -the only thing current illegals have the right to by current immigration law is a deportation hearing.

I think the fear has more to do with the competance of our government as exhibited by the passport fiasco, which was less than the number of illegals who would be applying and does not require in depth background checks.

However, I think if we finally address the issues and problem going forward, this is necessarily going to occur. I think in a practical world, many would get approved immediately, but others would go into a probationary void of probably years while they actually performed the checks. I know that doesn't sound attractive to those in the grey areas, but I don't know a way around it unless you suddenly recreate our government as efficient. I DON'T think cursory checks on those living under fake identities makes sense. Sorry.

edit, yeah, that would be nice on the security front. Mind you, I want the impacts addressed and the flood under reasonable control, however, more than I want that.

There is no one competent enough to do background checks and even if they do it would all be on the same piece of stolen identity.

Yes, applying through the legal process does let us know who is good. The very fact that a law was broken might make one a bad individual.

I would expect the majority would not qualify for legal status if they had legally applied. I would anticipate that less than 20% would qualify. GAO studies conducted reached a small percentage as well, mostly because of disqualifying factors.
