I want to send a food gift basket to a surgeon who operated on my grandfather at a hospital in NYC. Are there any ethical (or legal?) issues that would prevent him from accepting the gift? I don't want an awkward situation. Please answer only the question ask without offering alternatives (I don't want to donate money to a cause, etc. --- I just want to give a 'thank you' present).

Indian troops marched towards Kashmir amidst the tensions resulting from the indecision of the Maharajah. Additionally, as experts on Kashmir such as Victoria Schoffield and Alistair Lamb note, Indian postal services began listing Kashmir as an Indian territory, much to the alarm of Pakistan. The successful tribal invasion ultimately forced the Maharajah to accede with India, whether willingly or unwillingly is still unclear, though Pakistan contends that since the treaty was signed under duress and after the Maharaja had fled Kashmir, he thus forfeit any right to determine Kashmir's future. After hearing about Indian soldiers pouring into Kashmir, Mohammad Ali Jinnah (the founding father of Pakistan) ordered the head of the Pakistani Army, who was a British officer, to stop the takeover of Kashmir by sending his troops to the area in support of tribals who had already invaded Kashmir on behalf of Muslims in Punch District that were rebelling against the Maharaja's taxation.

rally behind me so that I can have amnesty for the stupid things I did as a kid?

I've worked hard all these years also and haven't broken any laws but it would sure be nice to have that monkey off my back.

Shouldn't I as an American citizen have the same right to amnesty as any illegal immigrant?

I'm just curious...

It has been revealed in Yahoo's forum that posting suggestions on how to conduct a successful terrorist attack in the USA , or any country , is a violation called -- " Inciting Violence " .

Oh , and btw , it was also noted that your IP address and Yahoo Screen-Name should be reported to your local law enforcement officials for legal prosecution of "Inciting Violence " .

Now I urge you subversives to stop your behavior , and I urge everyone else to do their duty if they see anybody suggesting ways to conduct a successful terrorist attack .

What fools . The terrorists can't think of everything and we shouldn't help them . But something the fools are missing is that by posting garbage like that , YOU are responsible for supplying ideas to nut-jobs within our country . And disgruntled youth or otherwise who are only hellbent on attention. . . .COPY-CATS .

Don't You People Realize That Inciting Violence Is Not Only Stupid , But It's NOT Covered Under Free Speech ?

Im from Toronto, Canada. I bought a car (Saturn 99) Last week from a Mechanic, after seeing this Add on a local newspaper. To be Honest, I do not know much about cars, and the most that I can judge by is by the way it looks and drive of course. When I saw the car, it looked spotless from outside, under the hood & very clean from inside. The car didn't had any plates so I couldn't really take a test drive, but the seller was very convening and seemed promising that if anything goes wrong with it, he'll be there. I bought the car next day for $3,500, and when drove it back home, the D gear wasn't even working and when i drove on 3rd Gear the car would go over 70-80 Km. I called up the guy & his Tone was entirely changed. He was completely ignoring me. I took the car to Saturn dealership & had it checked, they sd car has major problems and probably the engine is needs to be replaced. I took the car back to him and he was extremely Rude, arguing with me and yelling at me just to keep me down. I want to take LEGAL ACTION against him im not sure how can i do that. If anyone can PLEASE PLEASE help me with this....i can't even sleep in the nights thinking about it.

Seventy-seven years ago, members of Congress erected a tariff wall aimed at protecting American business concerns. The result was a stock market crash followed by drastic retaliatory tariffs and a shutdown of the global trading system. The 1932 Revenue Act made matters worse by massively raising marginal tax rates on domestic incomes. These blunders set the stage for the Depression and world war that followed.

Current members of Congress appear to have let their history books collect dust: A raft of anti-China currency and tariff legislation is now widely supported by both political parties as the exigencies of political grandstanding subvert the ideals of sound policy. At the same time, Chinese government officials have threatened to dump some of the government’s $1 trillion in U.S. Treasury securities if Congress continues its currency bashing and tariff threats.

This fiscal folly couldn’t come at a worse time. Financial markets have been reeling over the last several weeks as hedge funds deleverage from wrong-way bets on mortgage products. It certainly doesn’t help matters that a tone-deaf Congress, led by a bi-partisan coalition of the economically obtuse, is attempting to advance legislation that would raise tax rates on investment companies as part of a “fix” for the alternative minimum tax (AMT).

Has anyone in Congress ever stopped to contemplate why London has once again become the financial capital of the world? Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that the rest of the world is lowering corporate tax rates and trying to moderate regulations while the U.S. is stuffing Sarbanes-Oxley down the throat of its businesses.

If that weren’t bad enough, the 2001-03 tax cuts on incomes and capital are essentially on the chopping block, set to expire in several years time unless Congress and the president act to extend them. The current Congress isn’t disposed to extending the tax cuts, while online futures trading points to a Democrat sweep in 2008. In other words, there’s a high probability that tax rates are going up.

Some politicians argue that the current anti-trade sentiment has been driven by wage inequality and poor income growth, “tax cuts for the rich,” and high energy and food prices for the poor. But the data refute this. Personal income has grown at an average pace of 6.2 percent since 2004, despite large swings in reported GDP growth; personal income is up 6.1 percent year-over-year as of June, right in line with the average of the last few years. And thanks to a low unemployment rate and a tight labor market, real non-supervisory wages are growing faster today than they were at this stage of the last cycle (1.6 percent vs. 1.3 percent, year-over-year).

In fact, low-end (non-supervisory) real wages have grown at about twice the pace for this cycle compared to the first 23 quarters of the last expansion. A broader measure of real non-financial compensation per hour also shows superior wage growth during this cycle (1 percent per annum average vs. a 0.3 percent per annum average at this stage of the last cycle). So to call this a “wage-less” expansion is utter nonsense, despite the fact real GDP growth has averaged 2.7 percent per annum this cycle versus a superior 3.3 percent average at this stage of the last cycle.

Attention protectionist stooges: Since the implementation of NAFTA in 1994, real non-supervisory wages have grown at an average pace of 1.2 percent per annum, triple the 1971-2007 average of 0.4 percent per annum. Inflation-adjusted household net worth has jumped $22.2 trillion since NAFTA was implemented while non-farm payrolls have increased by 24.9 million. Manufacturing output, far from falling, actually stands at a record high, and is up 62 percent since 1994.

Undoubtedly some have been left behind by the global economy. But free trade, China, and Wal-Mart for that matter have dramatically increased the standard of living for most people, just as protectionism, a trade war, tax hikes on investment and work, and the absence of Wal-Mart would sink living standards for most people.

While the global boom continues on the back of pro-growth policies around the world, Congress is speeding down the road to ruin with trade protectionism and a raft of untimely tax hikes. It’s time to take a detour and think about the hugely anti-growth consequences of turning our backs on the global economy and pro-growth tax policy.

My daughter was arrested last night for OWI. Apparently, she was involved in a property damage accident, and when the police arrived, they naturally discovered she had been drinking, which, obviously, she was. I can understand them arresting her for operating while under the influence, and I would think they would have charged her for causing the property damage, but they didn't do that- instead, they charged her as follows: Count 1- OWI- with prior, Count 2- OWI- testing point 1.5 or above (??) and Count 3- Just plain OWI.
This just doesn't make sense to me. Can someone please explain how this is legal in the state of Indiana? Or anywhere else? How can you legally be charged with more than one count of operating while under the influence for only one incident?

Three-quarters of Americans think the United States should stop its military threats (against Iran) and concentrate on reaching agreement by diplomatic means... The vast majority of the population of both countries think that the area from Israel to Iran should be completely clear of nuclear weapons, including those held by US forces operating in the region. But you would have to search long and hard to find this kind of information in the media.
...Most Americans want less military spending and more welfare expenditure...They also want to cancel the tax reductions decided by President George Bush for the benefit of the biggest taxpayers.

On all these topics, White House policy is completely at odds with what public opinion wants. But the media rarely publish the polls that highlight this persistent public opposition. Not only are citizens excluded from political power, they are also kept in a state of ignorance as to the true state of public opinion.

I used to be friends with this guy from Iran for about 4 years. He is really strange. He's very serious, and that's why I'm not friends with him anymore. He joins a hell of a lot of clubs and so does his dad (I don't know if this corresponds to anything but I'm just adding this in). The main thing is that I just recently noticed his license plate with my parents. It says TAC 911. Does that stand for ATTACK 911? Also (I make movies sometimes) in one of my movies he did improv and said "I hate Americans. They eat and they drink." I don't know if that was intentional or not but I am highly suspicious.

I need to take my previous apartment complex to court buy I have a question about who I should sue and in which county I should do it in. I live in Los Angeles county in Southern California. I rented from an apartment complex in Los Angeles county. All my checks were made out to the apartment complex and I only delt with this apartment complex.

However, after checking on some things it looks like I need to sue the owner of the complex (not the complex itself). So, I checked and the owner is located in Northern California and is an LLC. Knowing that, do I sue my apartment complex down here in Los Angeles county or do I sue the owner located in Northern California?

Also, if I need to go after the owner of the property in Northern California I'm assuming I need to file a claim in their county's small claim court? That would mean when my court date comes up I'll need to travel up to their county to plead my case.

His chosen target was Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, who said recently he would be willing to meet with the leaders of Cuba, North Korea and Iran in his first year in office, and declared in a speech he would order military action to capture terrorists in Pakistan if that nation's president did not.

Romney got off this quote;

"I mean, in one week he went from saying he's going to sit down, you know, for tea, with our enemies, but then he's going to bomb our allies," said Romney. "I mean, he's gone from Jane Fonda to Dr. Strangelove in one week.""
