Are you interested in joining the Navy? You can contact your local Navy recruiter or go to the Navy website at gonavy.com.

They should give you all the information that you need.

The Navy is a great service. I have been in over nearly twenty years, active and reserve.

National Call to Service Program Announced
Story Number: NNS031016-03
Release Date: 10/16/2003 12:27:00 PM
From Chief of Naval Personnel Public Affairs

WASHINGTON (NNS) -- Oct. 1, the Navy began offering a new short-term enlistment program aimed at expanding the opportunities for all Americans to serve in the United States Navy.

Known as the National Call to Service (NCS), the program provides the Navy and the other military services a new way to reach a group of young Americans who otherwise might not serve in the military because of the length of traditional enlistment options.

You finish your initial training (boot camp and A-school) then complete an additional 15 months on active duty. After the completion of your active duty stint, you do two years active reserve (one weekend a month, two weeks a summer). Benefits are less (they have a modified version of the GI Bill where you receive full GI pay, around $1100/month for a year or $350/month for three years) or a $5000 bonus. Some states have great programs for veterans who serve for at least a year (Texas and Illinois, notably). It's a great plan, wish they had it when I enlisted.

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!

you don't get the same benefits with regards to bonuses and the GI Bill as Active duty does.

at the end of your 15 months, you don't have a choice, you WILL be going into the Reserves, no matter what anyone tells you otherwise.

The job selection is much more limited.

At the end, you are a Veteran,. but are not treated or seen as one by the VA or anybody else.

That'll give you a place to start online. You can also get up-to-date information about what kind of personnel needs the Navy is experiencing. They will have the latest information on programs and benefits too.

I spent a little over 20 years in the Navy. Wouldn't have traded the experience for the world.

You need to be able to sing and dance to the song "YMCA" by the Village People in order to qualify for the Navy!
