Yes. They were doing a reference check though, for someone I knew who had applied. I thought it strange they would show up instead of just calling.
And they asked me all sorts of crazy questions, not like a normal reference check.

Not since I got out of the Navy and came back to the States. If someone tells you they are from the CIA and you are inside the boundaries of the U.S. don't believe them and call the police.

Yes. In 1967. They didn't come into my house, but parked outside it, and when I stepped out they called me over to their car and wanted to know if I knew of any organizations in my neighborhood that supported the end of apartheid in Africa.
That was the east village. I explained that there were no people in the east village who had any interest in politics. They rolled up their window and kept staring at me as I walked away.
Do you think the government wastes a lot of money and man-power spying on citizens?
They were concerned about organizations that wanted to end apartheid?
I find all this crap really amazing.

Not in the U.S. That activity is prohibited by Federal law. Specifically the Church amendment to the Intelligence Services Act.

Not that I know of... Although on official business, you're much more likely to be contacted by the FBI on U.S. soil- abroad would be a different matter.
