I think I already know the answer, if you're liberal you think they are baby killers, if you're conservative you say right on.

Not telling you how to think, just predicting the responses.

I say take the skull of the enemy and mount it on the lead Humvee, Semper Fi!!!

We Marines have a very strong connection with our past. Many unit symbols honor that past. Or they tell what it is your unit does. Recon-"Swift Silent Deadly" not a lot of gray area there. One of my old units, ANGLICO, was "Lighting from the Sky, Thunder from the Sea" It tells who we are or what we do. And as Marines, we believe that no one does it any better. And as for the skull idea, I love it!!

As one who spent 8 years with Fleet Marines as a Navyman, I'm familiar with many of those symbols. The one for Charlie Company, First Battalion, Seventh Marines comes from the Battle of Okinawa where the unit suffered enormous casualties trying to scale Shuri Cliffs.
Civilians have to realize that the military is a foreign country with its own strange manners of dress and speech, its own private gods and taboos and its own totems. Some of those links portray some of those totems.
Semper Fi!

i think they're fine and my husband has a tatoo of a devil dog on his left shoulder.
they are motivating symbols and things to stir pride in marines.

aesthetically i think they are ugly, but i also thought my dad's "death from above" written under the picture of the Airbone's screamin eagle was ugly too! didn't mean i wasn't proud.

They work for me. When you're in combat arms, you tend to have unit patches that reflect that you deal in death.
