Just a question. Has the government helped you in your personal everyday, day to day life in anyway? Or have they hindered you from achieving your goals, or taken away a few more of your rights lately? Just looking for pros and cons. Thanks for your time.

Personally, the only thing the government has done for me is to ream me in the *** with high taxes. I'm self-employed and pay about 35% of my gross income in taxes. The only good thing I can think of that they have done for me personally is to repair the roads in my area. That's 'bout it.

Well I use currency everyday, I am protected by laws everyday, rules governing telecom companies keep me from getting gouged by prices everyday.... I mean really the list of things the governement does but people take for granted is pretty long.

AS far as hindering me or helping me... Well I would like to go back to school for free and not have to work while I do. Some countries provide that service but mine doesn't.

I need some medical/dental work that I can't afford to get done right now even with insurance.

I havent had any rights taken away from me.

The government has not stopped me from achieving anything. Anything I've accomplished, or anything I've lost, is my own doing. I don't look to the government to make my life better and I don't blame the gov't when things go wrong. It's an attidute and outlook that keeps me from being a vicitim of the government or anyone else. It may not relect everyone's reality, but it's the attitude that I think made this country great and it works for me. I often think others could benefit from it....

Well, it hasn't been done as a new thing lately but they have given me police officers, fire men, an education, roads to drive on, protection from the overly dangerous things my employer wishes I would just do (much to his displeasure), it has helped get a standardized world wide web (without which I would not be answering this question). No they haven't given me any money or handouts, but hey, I don't really need them. I couldn't live my life the way I do without the things I listed above.

Well in the positive way, i would say that they give a lot of other benefit, but my parents have to paid taxes a lot, but i think it balance than the system of government of the country where i originated!
In the negative way, they increasingly other high prices of living on demand like taxes and high gas prices is the main problem that everyone had mentioned.

Today? They cleared up the debris from a car wreck on a road that I take to and from work.

Several criminals were caught, some were convicted and sent to jail.

Progress was made on the Loop 410/US 281 interchange.

The border was patrolled, and I'm fairly sure that some illegal immigrants were either caught or turned back.

Just a couple of things off the top of my head.

All the gov does is scaring you into thinking they will protect you in case the shat hits the fan but yeah right. They just want money for taxes to feed their lard wives and kids 10 mcdonalds square meals a day.

Lets see.

Laws/Regulation
Law enforcement/Civil Order
Military (Heavy duty protection beyond law enforcement)
Infrastructure (roads, city utilities)

Are you having trouble seeing the forest for the trees?

I am not saying that the above are being done cost effectively or efficiently, or as well as they could ideally be done but that they are being done.

And by the way, we are paying for all these in taxes, so I do not feel that we are being "given" anything.
