My guinea pig was 5 months old when I got him. I've had him for 4 weeks now. He seems content and happy, but he just does not like me. I talk to him constantly. When I walk by his cage, he runs into the far corner. When I feed him, he won't take anything from my hand. He sits in the corner and waits for me to walk away before he'll eat anything. When I try to pick him up, he runs laps around his cage until I can catch him. When I hold him, he freezes like he's scared. Then he tries to break free from me. I took him to the vet to have his nails clipped. The doctor did a full checkup and said he's good and healthy. She showed me how to pet and rub my guinea pig. But, when I pet him at home, he won't calm down enough to enjoy it. I live by myself and have no other pets. So, there's nothing around that would scare him. Will he ever warm up to me? After 4 weeks, I thought he'd be used to me by now.

such as cats and dogs that need space to run around, explore and go to the 'toilet'? Many of my neighbours have dogs - small terraced houses with NO gardens and I think it is cruel. Is it any wonder they bark all day and drive us all mad - it's cos they are going mad themselves.

And poor cats with no-where to explore, hunt and be cats? Their territories are so close that they fight constantly. What life is that for an animal? I'd love a dog or a cat but there's no way I could be that cruel.

Interested in opinions from both sides - for and against.

Last night she was laying on her side in the cage, so I picked her up. Her right side seemed to be completely limp and her eyes were doing this little twitching motion- showed no signs she was in pain though. I held out a green pepper and she took it immediately and chowed right down. She didn't act like she was in pain, just like she couldn't move half her body. I put her back in the cage and she continued to eat the pepper. I took her to the emergency vet about 20 minutes away, and when we got there, she was completely normal- she was climbing around the carrier, washing her face, and seemed happy enough. So I brought her home. She shares a cage with my other piggie who has no signs of anything wrong. No new litter or food.
She's eating and drinking. Sleeping a bit more. This morning she was fine. I made an appointment with her regular vet who specializes in exotics. On the phone they seemed to think it was a seizure of some sort. Any ideas? I'm really worried about her!

Is there much chance that it will die, and will it be in a lot of pain? is it considered cruel to get it desexed.

I need to know this because I want to put it with my females because i think it is lonely, and it will not stop squeaking even after it has been fed. I do not have any room for more guinea pigs so do not want to get another male to put with it.

I bought two guinea pigs 2 days ago, ever since then they haven't been exercising much. They are still afraid of me, and would run away if I tries to hold them. So is it okay for them to skip several days of floor time until we get along?

A few months from now I will be moving into a new studio apartment and want some companionship. A cat or kitten seems like a great way to go. I will have school for anywhere from 5-6 hours a day but will have a lot of time to spend with my cat or kitten.

I want a pet that is somewhat easy to take care of and is loving. A declawed kitten seems like the best way to go right now, but i'm open to any advice!

Thanks, and i'd really love to hear from cat or kitten owners who can give me a little insight.

I have asked my vet, and some other trainers what i should do but havent gotten anywhere with their advice. its getting to the point where i am considering shackles for her. im afraid she is gonna hurt herself so ANY ADVICE WILL HELP!!!! im desperate! I hear that an aquarium is a bad idea and I was wondering if I could put a blanket on the floor, put a "fence" around it and keep him there. (with all the right necessities of course), but would that work?? ALSO: Can a G. pig drink out of a little bowl? ANY pig info would be great!
