He's a white mouse less than a few weeks old and was raised with humans. Recently he's had a circular patch about the side of an eraser tip on the back of his neck where the fur is gone, revealing a dissettling red spot. There is also a smaller version of this behind his leg. We don't think it's mites because he couldn't get to that spot scratching or biting, and there's no way he got bit up by any other animals. Does anyone have any ideas?
Just a quick note--I am absolutely, ABSOLUTELY not using Yahoo! Answers as a substitute for a vet--because we got him recently the pet store is footing the bill for a vet visit and I'm scheduling an appointment for this week ASAP. I'm just a little nervous and flipping out with worry over the little guy and thought I'd ask if anyone had any ideas so that I could feel a bit more in control of the situation.
Thanks.

With the gigantic pet food recall I have read in many places that it is common practice to use euthanised animals in commercial pet food & even road kill! This is really gross, but they feed dead animals in meal to chickens & cows, why now to pets?! Actually it wouldn't surprise me one bit anymore! Also, why do you think they 'still' haven't found the 'source' of the contaminant? It sure seems they would know by now!

have tons of money? if it werent for the millions of poor people out there that have given homes to the billions of homeless animals out there, then there would be billions more animals out there dying, suffering and lonely, because if everyone who could afford to spay or neuter and vaccinate on schedule were willing, they couldnt take in that amount of animals. there are way more poor people than well to do. at least these animals have someone to love them, give them shelter and food and water and vet care when it is most needed. they may live a shorter life than a fixed, vaccinated animal...then again they may not...but its better than the streets, where they certainly wouldnt see a vet for every little cough and owie that happened to them. so when people ask questions about home remedies in here, unless it is serious, try answering with thought instead of emotions.

Why do people ask questions where their pet is obviously injured and wonder what they should do? Questions like my animal is not really breathing right, limping, has open wounds, oozing things from various areas... Then they say I will wait a week or 2 then take it to the vet. If you or your child was injured would wait a week or 2 to go see a doctor?

The baby oil helped and fur started growing back around the affected area. After that his eyes pussed up and crusted up and it looked like a severe case of pink eye. We put terramycin ointment in both eyes. That didn't seem to help because both eyes started to drain, the puss was very thick and yellow. We had to keep an eye on him because the drainage would dry so bad that his eyelids were stuck closed. Obviously the drainage has caused fur loss around his eyes and face. The bare skin is now real dry and scaly looking. It almost looks like the drainage has started eaing away at his skin although there isn't any open wound areas. Does anyone have any idea what this is or how to treat it? This looks extremely painful and we've even thought about having him put to sleep. Just like all pet lovers, we really don't want to do that unless we have to. Please help!!
