We just got our first guinea pig, and he's wonderful with my daughter. my question is do I have to worry that my cats will kill him in his cage or will he be safe if they get in the room where he is? He has a large cage with a bedroom to hide in. Do you think he'd be okay or should cats stay away from him forever?

I have had him for about a month or so and he seems ok but whenever i go to see him he squeeks a lot i think it's for attention.
Will he be ok on his own if i give him lots of attention?
or do i need to get him a friend?

Here it is spring again. Now all the idiots who didn't have their animals spayed/neutered will be dropping off their puppies and kittens at my sister's farm. She works hard and doesn't have much money either. Why should she pay to have your animals taken to the vet or take time out of her day to take them to the shelter? Even if she shot them she'd have to pay for bullets and the lime to bury them in. Come on people, farmers don't want or need your cast-offs. NEUTER YOUR PETS!!!

I worked for a dog adoption agency that "rescued" only cute dogs and puppies. Many Shelters claimed most agencies did the same. They also said if these dogs stayed in the shelter they would be adopted almost immediately. Agencies help cut dog impound costs, but then people that adopt these dogs from agencies then give their donations to agencies not shelters. So shelters lose in the long run.

What do you think? Should agencies only be allowed to unbiasedly adopt dogs? And dogs that have high probability of adoption not be given to agencies?

Sorry but last i checked you need unfixed dogs to have puppies. I understand that responsible breeders are important and i think irresponsible breeders should be punished. But then neutering can not be the correct answer for everyone...

My breeder made my sign that if i ever wanted to get rid of my dog that i instead had to give it to them. And if my dog ever irresponsibly breed, got lost, ended up on thee streets etc i would have give huge donations to the local dog shelter. i think its a good contract that helps.

Additionally the breeder required that we get a chip for our dog and provide the chip # so they can check if the dog does ever end up in a shelter. Also a death record would be needed to justify the dog was properly taken care of and death was not on purpose..

What do you think. I know its hard to enforce, but its a option instead of neutering.

Sorry but i think mutilating animals because of irresponsible ownership is wrong. Instead irresponsible owners should be punished and have to pay for dog shelters - turned into happy dog hotels... What do you think? Also anyone think that neutering animals may be a sin?

Its not a large cut, only about an inch long, and its not too deep, but it took the skin off. She doesnt seem to be in any pain, but how do I treat it? Should I bandage it or leave it open? It has stopped bleeding, but I do not want to risk infection. Normally Id call the vet, but he lives awfully far. Any suggestions?

My male rabbit is now about 2 years old and hasn't been neutered. He came from a rabbit rescue centre about 8 months ago. He's quite narky and doesn't like to be picked up? Will neutering calm him down a bit?

I finially got a guinea pig last month and named her Darla. I've been wanting one since my last one(Spanky) passed away.
I noticed when we brought her home that she a had a dry booger on her nose... i didnt really think anything about it.. then i noticed her breathing really hard while she slept.. after about a month of having her, she started breathing hard while she was awake... she sounded conjested so i took her to the vet. he gave her some antibiotics (all it says on the bottle is Chlorp) but i gave it to her for 7 days then stopped... she seemed like she was getting worse.. i saw her tip over a few times and her eyes are bugging out of her head! so i started giving it to her again 2 days later (wich was yesterday) Does anybody know why her eyes would be bulging out? Im taking her to the vet later on today but i kinda wanted to have an idea of what it could be so i can tell the vet. is she going to die? :*(

This morning i went into our local shop to buy a mag. A huge overweight man was busy paying for a chocolate and some other stuff. A tiny little boy about 3 or 4 years old asked him to please buy him a sweet. The man who i presume to be the father said no , you are too naughty.
I walked outside and their was the Overweight pig standing right in front of the child eating the chocolate , the child then asked him for a piece and he opened his hand wide [ large fat hands ] and made them into claws and said the little boy , you know what will happen if you ask me again, you could see the child was petrified.
Felt like saying something to him but you could see that he would take a swipe at you , so i just kept quiet. What would you have done???

I got 2 roborovski hamsters 6 months ago. They are both male. We were told in the pet shop that they would get along together since they were brothers. For the first month, one was very shy and the other was outgoing. By the end of the second month, I began to suspect some bullying was going on, and a week later I caught them fighting, so I seperated the two of them.

The one which was really shy came out its shell, while the other previously outgoing one withdrew. He won't come out his cage into his ball, he won't take food from you if you poke it through the cage and he is very skitish. It's nearly impossible to get him out of his cage and into his ball so that I can clean his cage. He always just jumps out and gets loose, and they are so quick that it take almost half an hour to catch him before i can even start cleaning his cage. Is there anything I can do to try to make him a little less skitish? The other hamster is now outgoing and loves to be handles. I wish both were!

my little guy Rascal jumped from my hands last night. He fell about 5ft and hit the carpet floor. He is running on his wheel and playing in his ball, and eating and drinking water. He seems to be acting normal but I am worried about internal damage. Is there any signs I should look for? he still trust me but I am so worried. I love my little guy so much but don't know what to do. I called the vet and they say he should be fine..is this true plus they say if he has any interal damage there really isn't anything I can do. How long does it take for signs to show? and what are they. His eyes are really shinny, his ears are erecit and he is playful. Do I need to worry or am I being a worried mother. Please only serious answers as I need help.Once again I love him like he is my child and I want him to be okay and will do anything to make sure he live a healthy and happy life.
