My male rabbit is now about 2 years old and hasn't been neutered. He came from a rabbit rescue centre about 8 months ago. He's quite narky and doesn't like to be picked up? Will neutering calm him down a bit?

I've had rabbits my whole life and all of the females loved to be held but none of the males did. Hope this helps a lil.

If you did your research on rabbits you would be aware that most rabbits do not like to be picked up. They do not feel secure when they are off of the ground and often times panic when you put them down again (kicking the back legs).

Your rabbit will probably never enjoy being picked up. Rabbits are not cuddly pets like a dog, they tolerate being held(sometimes). Neutering is not going to do anything for calming him or making his like being picked up.

I do suggest nuetering for health and agression reasons.

Most rabbits don't like to be picked up. We have had 2 exceptions and they were both dwarfs, One was male, and the other is female. Both are spayed or neutered. Our other bunnies do not like to be held, but enjoy petting on the floor. Neutering should calm him down a lot.

It is all up to YOU if it is tamed or not, in order to tame this rabbit you will need to spend a few hours a day to get it used to you. The rabbit was not tamed before and you have to remember it's not just going to go "Oh well ive been here 8 months ill just be nice" .... youll have to spend time with it and get used to it. Another thing is not all tame bunnies like to be picked up.

Just continue giving him a lot of love and attention. If he came from a bad home he will take more. Some rabbits in certain breeds also never calm down completly.

When you pick him up do you hold both his back feet together. this makes them feel more secure. He may never like to get picked up but if you can hold him on your lap a lot he might get better at it.

It will help but you really need to work with the animal. Rabbits need to be worked with every day. Just keep at it.
