I'm sure there is a lot more to this story...
Depending on the situation and how long the dog was in their care you may or may not still have legal claim to the dog. If you honestly believe you can still legally claim he's your property call the police. If the care takers can show he has been in their possession for an extended period of time the police will probably just file a report and you'll need to get an attorney to take them to court.

Why would anyone be asking this question??? You should of been at the police station the day you told you they were not going to give the dog back!!
You can not just walk into the house but the police can. Is your dog wearing a collar with your name on it??
This dog is your private property.
Do you take good care of your dog? What reason did they give you!! Did they sell the dog?
Go to the police and fill out a report!!!

If you weren't taking good care of the dog, or they didn't think so, then its for the best.
I'm assuming you did take care of the dog considering you got someone to look after him when you left. You can prove ownership if he has dog tags from the city/county/whatever then you can get those records or the police can look them up and see that the dog is registered in your name. Since he's pedigree, you should also have your name in the paperwork when you registered him with the breed or akc. Take it up with the police.

Have you asked them why they won't give him back? How long have they been looking after him for? If you can prove the dog is legally yours and you were looking after him properly, then go to the local authority, as it would be theft. To me it doesn't matter whether the dog is a pedigree or not. He is your pet and therefore part of your family. Keep us posted and good luck

How long were they watching him? did you make regular visits while they were taking care of him for an extended period? did you provide monetary support for the dog? They may have a claim that you abandoned the dog to their care if you did not. But even if you didn't you may be able to take legal action to have it returned (although this is one of those situations where you have to ask yourself what is more important, the return of your "property" or the happiness of the dog) Not knowing any of the details of the issue makes it hard to give any good advice.

frist write a letter and send it with prof of it being sent.give the person a dead line to give up the dog.next make sure u have all the paper work together that proves the dog belongs to you.example vets records, dogs papers, ect.next get in touch with the police and and show them the papers saying he is your dog and if they can not do anything and you sent the paper then get your stuff together and go to court.but make sure if you owe the person money for watching the dog you have receipts saying you paid the person .SEE YOU ON THE PEOPLE COURT

take your papers down to the police and the contract that you signed with this person to keep your dog. pedigreed would prove that you own the dog and papers would show what you agreed to, otherwise it depends on the laws in that state and who the police believe

if your the registered owner and you have the papers call the police and give them the proof. If they do not give your dog back then you can take them to small claims court.

I would suggest calling the police. Also, make sure that you have proof of ownership, such as his registration, or vet records, etc.
