I personally think they are great pets, but it depends what you are looking for.

They aren't cuddly animals like a kitten or a puppy, but if you are able to get a weaned baby from a breeder, then you have a much better chance of getting a friendlier chin than from a pet store. The more you handle them--the friendlier they are, but if they are 6 months or older, then it will take time for the chin to warm up to you.

If you are a soft-sleeper, then be sure to not place the crate near or in your bedroom because they are nocturnal and like to jump and play at night (which can be noisy).

Chinchillas are easy to care for and are clean animals. If you want any more info feel free to contact me :)

Chinchillas are a blast. But if you dont have alot of time and if you like a good night sleep, than a Chinchilla might not be for you. They are nocturnal and need alot of space and excersice. Absolutely a huge responsibility. We had 3 at my work that were for sale. They all sold and then all got returned, because people didnt realize how big of a responsibility they were.
So please be sure to do as much research as possible before you choose to get one. Not only books, but you can look up on your computer about them to. Good luck.

Hi,
They are great pets! They can live a very long time, up to 30 years so it is a commitment. Be sure to read everything you can on owning a Chinchilla before getting one. As long as they were not born in the wild, they are domestic and have been bred as domestic animals for many years now. They do have certain climate needs so be sure to read!
Best wishes

Well think of them as hamsters, they can be very friendly, but I highly recommend getting them as baby's. I had one that I purchased form a pet store. NOT A GOOD IDEA. For one they are still about the same price as form a breeder, and the pet store hardly ever know how old they are. Socialization is key in the first few months...also make sure to feed a well balanced diet. They have a tendency to have seizures and health problems. They need a good hiding place, they are nocturnal, and they need an ample amount of room to play.

Yes!!! Chinchillas make extremely good pets. They are fun and are VERY soft and love to run and jump. They also go crazy on treats and love to run on their wheels. Dont have any doubts. I have owned a chinchilla for 3 years and he is such a darling.

No, they are wild animals! It is cruel to keep them in a cage. They are like squirrels. They are not lovable, you cant walk them, they make a mess. They can take care of themselves out in the wild, so thats where they should remain.
