Here is a tip about dropping a hamster.hopefully this will stop future unneeded worry. If they return to their daily routine within an hour of dropping them. The fall did not hurt them.If you seriously hurt a hamster by dropping it.99% will die within 24 hours.A 5 foot drop for a hamster isn't very far.Especially on carpeted floors. With all the hamsters I have had in the past I have never had one die from being dropped.I did have a couple that landed on their head. They acted a little loopy for about 10 minutes and were just fine after.

If your hamster is acting fine since yesterday, he is fine. You don't need to worry anymore.
But don't risk this happening again. Hamsters are fragile. They aren't like rats and mice; they aren't made for jumping and falling, and a hamster will walk right off the edge of a table if you don't stop it. A hamster falling from a table can be stunned or even suffer a broken back. You were lucky.

Mine fell off the kitchen table(they don't see very well) and landed on his back. I was a lot more upset than he was. He lived a long time after the fall.
They are pretty tough little creatures. If he acts like before he fell, just pay attention for a while and watch for 'out of the ordinary' occurences including changes in eating and drinking and urine and stool.
good luck

My daughter's hamster jumped out of her hands all of the time - except over water or other dangers! So I think they know or have good intution about height. You can actually see their little noses and whiskers working while they check out their environment.
He lived over 5 years - no problems at all.

If he is really hurt, you would have seen some changes by now. When a hamster is hurt or ill, they go downhill very quickly. He should be fine.

stop worrying.. if he is running on his wheel, eating and acting normal, its very unlikely that there is any damage.
