Advertising. :) It's amazing how the consumer in us gets the better of us sometimes.. and it happens to all of us at some point or another, be it with pet food, car cleaner, stain remover, what have you. Advertising is a finely honed science by now. Advertisers even know what colors and color combinations on a product packaging will appeal to which demographic they are targeting, and why. It's part art, part psychology, and it's super annoying (to me anyway). Because you're right, most people never bother to look past commercials they see on TV for Mighty Dog or what have you and READ the ingredients label. "Meat and Bone meal". Meat and bone meal? What is that? Don't you ever wonder WHY they won't tell you what KIND of meat and bone meal it is?! Because they don't want you to know! Advertising is why I try to avoid watching TV - so I don't become just another brain-washed consumer.

I,ve not seen any at that price, but alot of people are pretty gullible. Some don,t care so much about the ingredients of a product, only the price. Personally as far as pet food I haven,t bought my shl-tzu pet since the recalls started. As a farmer I,ve only been feeding him food we have raised or grew ourselves.

I don't think they believe this - people who buy the cheapest food usually either don't know or don't care about nutrition. Some people just don't plain THINK.

After all, if you buy something specifically manufactured for pets, it's not unreasonable to expect it to work is it? I think supermarkets should be banned from producing own brand pet food, and petshops and supermarkets should not be allowd to sell flea treatment, it's just grossly misleading.

Well being that some major pet food companies such as IAMS are on the recall list for pet food, I don't see where the price matters that much. I check to make sure that they do food tests on animals...I used Purina for my kitten...

I think it's called "wishful thinking"

People always want the best quality for the lowest price. It may not be realistic, but it IS human nature.

Because that is how they were raised, and they think that the same stuff that is in expensive foods are the same things that are in less expensive foods...they don't read between the lines and are just very ignorant just to save themselves a penny or two.
