They sure do love their wheels. You can't hear the TV some time for the all the wheels going at once. We have 26 cages with wheels, housing several different breeds of small animals and it does get quite noisy all throughout the day and night.

Now do you have a Syrian or a dwarf hamster? This does make a difference in my answer. If you have a Syrian then it is alright to give a very small piece of banana once or twice a week, but not every day. They are high in sugar and can contribute to a hamster with genetic history of diabetes to develop it. The corn is fine since it is already in they diet in dried form, but fresh only feed a small amount, about 1/2tsp. size. Now if you have a dwarf hamster then you should never feed them any fruits, corn (fresh and dried), carrots, peas, commercial treats, or any other foods high in artificial or natural sugars. Dwarf hamsters are genetically prone to getting diabetes so more care must be taken with them and their dietary needs.

If you would like a complete food list for Syrians or diabetic.dwarf hamster depending on which you have, email me direct to my yahoo email at wolfinator25840@yahoo.com. Don't use Yahoo Answers to email me because they don't have enough characters in they're system for all my information. My profile explains about what I do and how to contact me.

yes, i do believe all hamsters LOVE their wheels. Bananas are ok for hamsters, corn is not so much. Not because its necessarily bad for them, but because it has a high fat/energy content and a low protein content. You're hamster will have more of a risk of becoming obese if given too much, even if she does run on her wheel all night long. But a few kernals here and there as a treat wont hurt anything. We give our hamster and rabbit corn kernals for treats every now and again, you can also give them those milk bone dog biscuits. My hamster, rabbit and mice all LOVE those things. My rabbit is getting pretty bad about trying to sneak into where the treats are to get one, and the mice end up fighting over it when I put one in their cage, so now I have to spilt it up before I put it in the cage so they dont fight. The hamster dismembers it (its the medium size bones) and shoves it ALL in her face, thats pretty funny.

All hamsters love their wheel. Bananas and corn are fine additions to a hamster's regular diet.

Wheels are a great way to burn off energy for the little hyper boogers. They are used to all the room in the world on the wild so yes it's normal. Especially when you are tryin to sleep too!! Corn & bananas are safe yes...here is a link that has a list of safe foods also >> http://www.hamsterific.com/HamsterUniversity/FoodList.html

you can recycle your toilet paper rolls too they love to chew on things like card board. It helps them stay busy. Oh if you cant sleep at night with the noise then take it out for just the night. He/she will be ok without it and love it even more when you put it back but always give him something to do.

Yea, it's pretty normal. :) There's not much to do when you're in a cage. Yes those are healthy snacks for hamsters but you can't have them live off those.
