Watch any of the pet rescue shows on Animal Planet and you'll get some good ones if your heart isn't broken first. Animal Cops, Animal Precinct, and Miami Animal Police are a few such shows. They may have stories on the websites for these shows. Go to http://animal.discovery.com/fansites/animalprecinct/animalprecinct.html . You also want to take a look at the website from your local newspaper -- local stories are always more persuasive and just about every town has its share of animal abuse horror stories -- the newspaper usually gets around to reporting a few a year.

This is such an important topic, and you need to have an intellectual investment in it in order to be a good persuasive speaker and become emotional about it with your audience. I know that googling or yahooing for a topic gives lots of hits, and it would be easier for people on this chat to merely supply you with stories, which may or may not be even true. Nevertheless, YOU need to find the stories by reading them from the hits you get. Good luck. Hope you decide to do a convincing job and not just another empty speech on the topic.

I volunteer with a spca. Our group got involved when several young boys stoned a dog to death. They first tormented it by riding their bicycles around and around it and ran over it. They were urged on by a watching crowd. In this area there is very little respect for animals but it was certainly time for a change. Our group approached the judge and asked her to consider material we had that shows that there is a correlation between animal abuse and abuse of humans. We asked that they get some much needed help. Many serial killers started out by abusing animals-such as Jeffrey Dahmer. The abuse esculates. With Dahmer he started with road kill, then small animals and worked his way up to humans. His story is easy to document. We work closely with the local animal shelter. The workers are trained to look for human abuse when they find animals abused. Social workers here are given training to look for animal abuse in the home, such as a dog that ducks when you raise your hand. USUALLY, there is abuse of another family member when an animal is abused. You can probably talk to a local vet or shelter and they may be able to give you some help. Check out the Human Society of America website. They have people that constantly fight to have laws changed to protect animals. Recently a law was passed stiffening penalites for cockfighting and dog fighting. People and Pets Coalition here also work toward the same cause and have great seminars about animal abuse, how and what animals do for us-herding dogs, guide dogs for the blind, they even have dogs now that can tell if you are going to have a seizure. How can people abuse these animals. There are absolute horror stories about what happened to animals during Hurricane Katrina. Pets were not allowed to be rescued along with their owners so they were left to die. Many people wouldn't leave their pets and toughed it out until their pets could be saved. Many dogs, starving, formed packs and had to be shot by the police. Animals were tied and left, owners hoping to return, and left to starve to death. I can go on and on but this should give you some ideas about where to look for info on abuse. Try reading a few stories and write your own story but don't plagerize. Give credit to whereever you got the info. I hope this has given you a few ideas. Also there has been some horrific stories about people breaking into shelters and killing the animals because they can. There is a small town in Texas that had a shelter that wasn't euthanizing the animals humanely. They wer just dumping them down an old well. You should be able to find plenty.

In my country there are lots of animal abuse due to improper education. Donkeys, horses, dogs and even pets are very much abused and no effective effort so far has been made to educate the people and stop such behavior.

Go talk to the workers at a local vet OR an animal shelter. I used to work for an SPCA (Volunteer when I was a kid). You wouldn't believe the horror stories. I hate to post any for fear some sicko or joker would try it themselves!
Good luck, I bet you get awesome info to make your paper great!

I would talk about how important it is for a horses hooves to be properly taken care of. Or how people get a horse and think this will be a good pet for my kid and then dont take care of it right or starve it because food costs to much! These subjects always rile me up, im gettin mad just typin this lol! Not new but always good if you need to show emotion.

well there was that one story on Utah's news where a man would pick up stray cats beat them a blind them then drop them of at the pound it was to impress his girl friend who thought that he was just taking care of the cats and dropping them of Lucky he was stopped but i think this is appalling beyond belief that some one would even consider doing such a thing. theories have prov en that betting up animals often leads to child abuse!!!

i wish you luck on you your report and hopefully more people will be able to see that it is not funny to beat up helpless animals

Sure, abusing animals is fun, but how can we get more people envolved in this growing family fun activity?
