You might end up with some cuts if you use alcohol. OUCH! Try neosporin....it's antibacterial and doesn't sting. If the cut is gaping, you may need to take your cat to a Vet or Emergency Pet Clinic to have it sutured. In any event, you need to watch the cut carefully to spot any infection.

OUCH! I don't even like to use alcohol on my cuts. Why not use peroxide or a betadine scrub? This would be less painful and I agree if your cat isn't very easy going, you might end up with some scratches of your own to doctor. Using an antibiotic ointment would help too, but most animals will just lick it off anyway. If you want to try and keep it clean and it is in an area that the cat wont bother then you could try using some vet wrap.

if its nothing more than a surface wound then dont worry about it. Your cat has a VERY good immune system that she was born with that is constantly fighting everything she comes into contact with. If its a pretty deep wound then alcohol is alright to use, but it does sting. I wouldn't use any antibiotic products at all until it is infected. By using antibiotics on a wound that is not infected you are increasing the antibiotic resistance of the bacteria, so eventually that antibiotic is not going to work. The antibiotic will kill most of the bacteria causing the infection, BUT it doesnt kill all of them, so that leaves the bacteria that were not affected by the antibiotic to genterate more bacteria that wont be affected. Other than alcohol, use hydrogen peroxide or mild soap and water. But I would seriously just not mess with it unless its relatively serious.

YOW, your cat is going to scratch and not like it at all. First, wash the cut as best you can. Try to make sure his fur isn't getting inside of the cut. If it isn't a very bad cut, spread some neosporin on it, let it there for a couple of minutes, then wipe it off (it shouldn't be ingested so you want to leave as little of it on the cat for him to lick off). He'll lick it anyway just 'cause you messed with it but at least a lot of the bad bacteria things have been killed off. Keep an eye on it because if it gets worse, you should take him to the vet for more serious doctoring.

I use Hydrogen Peroxide on my cats' wounds. They usually heal up nicely and it doesn't sting kitty. Just dab some on a cotton ball and dribble over the cut till it 'fizzes'. Do this 2-3 times a day. Neosporin is good too, but mine usually lick it off if they can get to it.

Hydrogen peroxide or betadine or iodine would be better; alcohol stings, it's irritating and has no residual effect. Peroxide doesn't have any residual effect either, but it doesn't sting.
In any case the cat will probably lick the wound if it can reach it.

Alcohol and alcohol-based fluids can "burn" your cat's skin and cause it a lot of pain.

If you want to protect the wound, just put some Neosporin on it (available over the counter at any drug store). That will kill the bacteria, promote healing, and soothe any pain the wound may be causing your cat.

Mix 1 tablespoon of salt into 1 cup of warm water. When the salt is desolved, wash the cut.
