Either can make good pets, it depends on what you want from a pet.

A snake won't be affectionate or playful. Although you can handle him, you will have to get most of your enjoyment from watching him live his life in the GREAT habitat that I'm sure you are going to build for him. Smaller snakes can eat bugs or fish, large snakes will have to fed frozen animals or 'snake hamburger.' Of course you won't even CONSIDER doing live feeding, right? Not only is that very cruel, but it can be dangerous to the snake... Surprisingly, small animals don't LIKE to be fed to snakes and they will sometimes fight back.

If you like watching animals in their natural environment and you enjoy furnishing and building habitats, then you will enjoy a snake. You will, of course, have to keep the habitat clean. And if the snake gets sick, he will need to see a vet, just like any other animal -- make sure you can afford vet care, no matter what animal you bring home.

A puppy, on the other hand, will be EXTREMELY affectionate. He will want to play with you and be with you ALL the time. Puppies take a LOT of work. It takes work to house break them and train them properly. You can never go away for a day or weekend without either bringing your puppy or making arrangements for someone to take care of him. You will need to feed him twice a day and make sure he gets proper vet care, including shots and getting him (or her) fixed. You will have to take him for regular walks, even before school or work. You will have to hurry home to walk him before going out with friends. He will be a HUGE part of your life.

But there is nothing, nothing, like owning a dog. No one will ever love you the way your dog will love you. It is a HUGE responsibility to bring any pet into your home, but dogs require the most from you. After all, you don't want to ever let your dog down, do you?

Have fun, whichever pet you decide on!

A snake has some definite advantages. No need to walk it, brush it, groom it and no barking, chewing up the furniture or going nuts when you leave the house and tearing up the place.

But then, they're not cuddly.

I still have dogs but I don't think I'll get another snake.

puppys take a lot of work and time .I know .I have a 4 month old labmix. If you are wiling to put the work into training and walk him/her every day, then you should get the puppy. If not, get the snake

That would really depend. are you scared to feed rats to snakes, and are you willing to walk and take care of a dog for 14 years?? Good Luck, I would get a Puppy.

If you are interested in getting a snake, but don't want it to eat you dogs. Look into a ball python. They make great pets. I have two and I have never had any problems with them. Easy keepers and they don't get too big.
