Rabbits are food for fox and dogs. It is there nature. When I was young I had a dog named Prince, he would sit with me and my rabbits and lick them, I thought he liked them until one day I didn't close the cage well enough and he ate them. I cried and cried and had a funeral for them, what was left of them. I feel for your daughter. It takes quite a well built cage to keep out a determined fox or dog. I think the rabbits died of fright. It's hard not to blame the fox but hard to blame him for beinga fox too.

The same thing happened to my mothers two bunnies. They were mother and daughter and had a beautiful pen where they could go in and out of their hutch as they pleased. Somehow the Fox got through the wire and took one of the rabbits and just left its intestines and the other one, just died. It left that one.
Even though it seems terribly wrong, its just nature and wasnt anyones fault, your daughter looked after them and gave them a nice home. It would be unfair to keep them inside all the time.

Heart attacks in rabbits are very common. Anything trying to get them will scare them to death. I have 4 bunnies and we had to build their cages up high so nothing would get them. Dogs or anything will do that. I would say it was a heart attack though. I'm wondering why the fox didn't eat it... That's weird!

the foxes main diet is bunnies... sad, I know.
were the bunnies in a cage to where the fox couldnt actually get to them?
bunnies have heart attacks very easy... One look from the fox would give the bunnies a heart attack.
Im sorry for your daughters loss.

Foxes in the wild usually kill bunnies for food.

Man usually kills foxes for sport.

Foxes don't usually grow to the size of an Alsatian.
Nor do they usually suffocate bunnies and not try to drag them away.

Strange - Perhaps someone has poisoned the bunnies - in their food if they are still in the hutch. Perhaps it has nothing to do with the fox at all.

The bunnies probably did die from a heat attack, probably 'cause the fox tried to get them. Fox's kill bunnies because they are predators and rabbits are one of their prey, it's natural.

Probably got stressed out over the scent of a predator. They can fall dead due to heart problems, and my friend's rabbit actually fell into a coma. They thought he was dead, and I noticed the rabbit was still breathing. The chances of recovering were slim, so they ended up euthanizing the poor rabbit.

Could be, they are very prone to shock, strange that both died though, maybe the fox was chasing them round for a while, wouldn't take a lot for a fox to kill a rabbit though, are you sure there was no bite on the neck?

Rabbits are prey animals, so they freak out when they see a predator. Being caged and unable to escape they probably died from fear and stress. That's why my bunnies lived indoors.

A fox is a predator and bunnies are their prey. Simple as that.
