I have a 2.5 gallon acrylic Hex tank with a male Betta and a mystery snail. The tank has been completely cycled for quite some time now. The tank came as a package (TopFin AquaScene 2) with an undergravel filter. The filter seems to be working ok, but I keep hearing so many negative things about UGF filters. Plus, there seems to be a lot of surfarce agitation from the air pump bubbles and my Betta can't create bubble nests. I would like to replace the UGF with a small 3 gallon in-tank filter that I have in a different 2.5 gallon tank.

Is it ok to change fitler types in a cycled tank? If I do, do I have to re-cycle the tank? Do I need to completely clean out the bottom of the tank, below the UGF plate? Or just remove the plate?...

I want to make my freshwater tank into a salt water tank. It is only 20 gallons, but I want to get like clown fish and fish like that. I always take very good care of my tank, and fish. I have some freshwater fish, but I will wait till' they die off. (I know that sounds mean, but they will die eventually) I REALLY want this to happen. Would I need to buy a new tank, and filter? I want to use the one I have now.

I recently heard about putting goldfish in livestock (mosty horses and cattle) water tanks to help keep the tanks cleaner. However I just read a post on here that said basically goldfish weren't a good idea b/c they don't normally eat algea. What about the algea eaters? Those sucker fish? Would they work?

Some just faded and others' colour went in patches. Other goldfish in pond not affected except one Koi which started off navy blue all over (he's about 8 years old). He started losing colour round his scales on his back and now his back is totally white/silver while his lower scales are blue/black and still gradually turning white.
He's otherwise very healthy - same as the goldfish. Help!!!

Hi,
I currently have a vacant 1 gallon with an undergravel filter and a heater so the water stays around 75F with it in it. I also have a 29 gallon with 9 female bettas so my question is if one of the girls are to get sick, can I use the one gallon as a hospital tank?
Thanks

We went to Wal-mart last night and spent about a half an hour filling beta fish bowls with water.
About 90% of the bowls had maybe an inch of water in them and the fish were practically swimming on there sides, not to mention that there were several dead.
I have no idea how to care for these fish, and I am sure that the straight tap water was not the best for them, but was better than none.
Can anyone tell me if this is okay for them to not have much water, and how to care for them, because I am considering going back and "saving" a few.

Details can be skipped if you like. Question is at the bottom.

I bleached my holey rock and a used filter that had algae all over it. I read later that I might have used to much bleach. I say about a cup in only 3 gallons and it soaked for about 6 hours instead of 20 minutes. I then soaked it in dechlorinator. I then rinsed it off again really well. Finally I let it dry completely.

Next I put the rock and filter into a bucket of really hot water. Not boiling water. Just high temp. And now plan to soak in dechlorinator again.

My question in short. Is there anyway I can make sure this rock and filter is safe from the bleach before adding them to my tank? I don't want to wait weeks :(.

I have a 50 gallon that currently has 3 fancy guppies; 3 mollies; 3 cory cats; 2 platies; 4 zebra danios; 3 neon tetras; 2 african dwarf frogs; and about 15 babies of a variety of sizes. I'm not planning on adding more fish unless necessary (females getting bullied; lack of schooling; etc.) If I change my mind am I safe to add more fish? If so what kinds? Will nature takes its course with the fry; or do you think I will have many fry growing into adults? Any suggestions for my tank (best temp; ph; etc. for my tank combos)? Also, I lost a guppy to a freak filter accident and they next day her mate died is this coincidence? Is it necessary to put netting over the filter? Please give me any info you think I need; ty.

Things I already know so please don't give me these answer or anything completely basic like do water changes; ty. If you think something is basic but unique feel free to let me know.

1. My tank is not overstocked

2. Fish eat their fry

3. Proper General Maintenance

I want to add triops to my 16 gallon fish tank (which I take perfect care of). I hear that it is ok to add triops to the fish tank, but I have a few questions:

1: Will the triops survive in tap water (that has been treated to remove chlorine and hard metals)?

2: Are the triops able to lay eggs in the tank?

3: If they do lay eggs, will they hatch without draining the water?

If you have ANY info on having triops in the fish tank, please dont hesitate to tell me.

Thank You for your help.

Hi, my sons Goldfish has developed fin rot. The whole tail is infected, have you had this problem and what did you do to fix it? I am going to get some medicine from the pet shop, but I'm unsure if it is really fixable when the condition of the fish is poor. I don't want to put the little fish through unnecessary stress if it will onlt die a horrible dealth. Please help, I feel awful. (we are a family of animal lovers). :(
