I've raised several puffers, and while all have been somewhat aggressive, a couple have caused much distress to my other fish, especially the long finned ones.

Dwarf Puffers are the most docile and agreeable of all "freshwater" puffers. Despite this, in a 10 gallon tank you should only have one. With a much larger tank you can have a few dwarf puffers together with adequate cover, but in a smaller tank stick to faster fish with short fins.

In a heavily planted/decorated ten gallon, you could probably have three freshwater dwarf puffers. Heavily planted is the key..you want to break up their line of vision and allow them to establish their own little territories.

When I had mine I had them in a tank with three khuli loaches..they are generally okay with small bottom dwelling fish that don't move much, but most other fish are out of the question as they can be quite aggressive.

Also, they need live or frozen foods. I have my thawed out frozen bloodworms.

some of the dwarf puffers are really interesting fish but most are brackish to some degree (requiring the addition of salt to your tank) and almost all are aggressive fin nippers(part of their charm. Thus eliminating most fish as happy tank mates (atleast in a ten gallon tank) if your going to be happy with a puffer try finding an avacado puffer they are green (sort of) and swim backwards and forwards and upside down. way cool!
