WHAT, if you are talking about the small, tropical, live bearing fish that the males have colourful tails you are really wrong about the price!!
1 male-$2.50-australian dollors (roughly $2.20 US)
1 female-$2-australian dollars (roughly $1.80 US)
definately not $100 !!!

You must be kidding! I never heard of a guppy costing that much. I saw guppies for 1.97 Canadian dollars. There are different varieties of guppies. The males are usually fancier than the females so that's how they attract the female to have babies with her. Guppies are livebearers, which means that they have babies and do not lay eggs. these fish are tropical fish, they like warmer water. These fish are peaceful so it wouldn't be a good idea to put them in a tank with too much aggressive fish. Heres a site that i got most information on guppies,

Is it pure gold???
It is a small fish that gives birth to live young, the one that you saw was probably a fancy variety which are often shown in Guppy competitions, was its tail nice?
