Well, nobody hit on the solution, so here it is.
You need to put fresh carbon in the filter and start doing regular weekly partial (40%) water changes (Do one right away). Do not tear the whole thing down and completely clean it out. If you do, you will kill all the beneficial bacteria that have been building up over the weeks you have had it running, then the tank will have to cycle itself all over again.

Your tank probably smells because it has dirty water. You will need to replace the filter media, when you do replace the media you should allow the bacteria to "jump" from old cartridge to new cartridge by running them side by side for about three days.
Do weekly water changes of no more than 40%, once you get the smell and ammonia level under check you can do 20% weekly changes.
If this does not take care of it you probably need a more powerful filter or a larger tank.Goldfish create more waste or ammonia than most other common aquarium fish. If you do choose to replace look for something that uses a "bio wheel" they are excellent for removing Ammonia and require very little maintaince.
Also try feeding your fish less, less food means less waste/ammonia. Which means a cleaner tank.
Do not waste your time with chemicals, they are expensive and usually don't work (unless it's medicine).

not your goldfish, but your tank water
Usually the smell is from ammonia
do a partial waterchange of 50% with a gravelsiphon right away, get yourself an ammonia test kit right away to check your ammonia levels, if they are not at "0" you have to keep up with partial waterchanges of 25% every 3 days, until they are at "0"
After that you should keep up with weekly maintanance of 25% partial waterchanges with a gravel siphon
Feed your goldfish only as much as they will eat in a period of 3-5 min at each feeding twice a day
Leave your light on for 10-12 hours during the day and turn it off at night for 12-14 hours
Replace the carbon cartridge every 4-6 weeks
Hope that helps
Good luck

Stinking always means something. Whether human, dog, fish, etc. It means that something is dirty and/or rotten and looking to fix the problem with a chemical would be like humans never ever bathing and thinking that slathering on some deodorant is going to cure the problem. Either you have food decay, plant decay, a buildup of fish waste or any combination of all three. You need to clean your tank regularly. Goldfish put out more waste than any other fish and, as such, need a larger filter than any other fish. For tropical fish, the filtering requirements are that 4 times the water is moved per hour as the size of the tank, or, for a 10 gallon tank, you would need a 40 gph filter. But, for goldfish, the rule is that the filter move 10 times the water per hour as the size of the tank, or, for a 10 gallon tank, you would need a 100 gph filter. So, first, unless you have a 1 gallon tank, which you cannot have for a goldfish anyway, you're underfiltered and you need a bigger filter. Next, no matter how great your filter might be, you still need to do weekly tank maintenance in the form of 25-35% water changes, filter rinsing, substrate siphoning and general wipedowns. So, with a proper size tank and filter and regular tank maintenance, I'll bet you will no longer have a smelly tank.

Goldfish don't stink, dirty water does. Clean that tank, but not all at once. Do a 10% water change every day until it quits stinking. Siphon the muck off of the gravel but don't remove too much water at one time, the change can cause shock and worse.

Is it the food that you are feeding your goldfish? It might be. Try to find a different kind of food. Or, does your goldfish need his tank cleaned? That might be it, but, I am not sure. I hope that this helps! Thanks, and good luck,

Have you been cleaning it? It isn't enough to just have a filter and air pump, you need to change all the water, scrub all the plants/rocks inside the tank, and scrub the sides of the tank. It's hard work, but it'll help the smell AND make your fish happier & healthier.

Move your fish for a while and dump your tank then use aquaSafe water conditioner. It should help. Also, lower feedings for a few days.
