i have a 3 week old platy x sword baby he in a net since he was 4 days old and he getting big and want to make sure he is too big to get eaten if i let him out. how old do you breeders leave the fry in breeding nets before realeasing the baby fry into the adult tank. sensible answers please

hi! baby fish (platies, mollies, etc.) are usually safe once they are larger than the opening of the mouths of the adult fish.

Make sure that they have places to hide to get away from the larger fish, other than that, they should be ready to join the other tank!

Breeders almost always just have a separate tank in which to grow out the fry. So for your question the real answer is "never",but practically it's when the young'uns are too large to fit in the adults mouths.

Once it's big enough to not fit in the other fish's mouths, or get sucked into the filter intake tube.
