I have a 10 gallon with a 150 gallon filter. It has been cycling for about 2 weeks with 1 male betta in it. My question is how many small tropical schooling fish could I have. Each will only get to 1 inch. Also If I decide to get blue rams or another small cichlid instead, how many cichlids could I have. I have 3 caves set up in there. I have plenty of fake plants. Very small substrate, as cichlids like to dig sometimes to bury eggs or just to rearrange the aquarium. Filter is adjustable flow from 50-150 gallons, so I will not have too much filtration or current. So, incase I lost you, my question is... How many 1 inch schooling fish could I have OR how many 3 inch small cichlids could I have. Also, could I fit two five inch fish in my aquarium.

We moved our fish from one room to another and since then they haven't been the same. They are not eating, moody, not swimming around, and one fatality has occured.
Any ideas as to what might be causing this alarming situation?
The move itself was on Friday, so less then a week.
Thanks!

I have one betta fish in a 1.5 gallon tank, and i got a little stick on thermometer- no heater, because i was told that they would be fine. It says the temperature is 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Is this okay? should i raise the temp by adding warmer water? help!

Ok, I just upgraded my 10 gallon, to a 20 gallon aquarium. I have 4 Neon Tetras and 1 betta. I went to Petsmart today to see what i liked. I came up with these:

-Gold Skirt Tetra
-Tiger Barb
-Red Glass Barb
-Red Tailed Shark
-Australian Rainbow
-Long Finned Red Minor Tetra
-Rosey Barb
-Albino Rainbow Shark

Which of those would get along with my current fish? Also, of those that can get along, how many can I safely put in?

Problem: Bought anacharis and planted them to fish tank a week ago but there are not growing and look unhealthy (yellow leaves, leaves falling off, etc

Facts
-15 gallon fish tank
-Had tank for a year with fish
-15 watts fluorescent lamp made by All-Glass Aquarium
-I have 4 goldfish (tank overstock but goldfish were a gift. I didnt buy them. dont blame me)
-2 apple snails
-Do water changes weekly 20-30 percent.
-Filter for 30 gallons with CARBON
-NO ALGAE the entire time I had the tank.
-Light ONLY received from lamp. No window where I have the tank.
-Turning the lights for 10-14 hours daily AFTER getting the anacharis.
-Used fertilizer YESTERDAY, no effect.
-Water is room temp or cold (goldfish)

Hypothesis
-Activated carbon sucking nutrients / lack of iron
-Light not strong enough
-Not enough CO2

Other facts
- Answers must be from ppl who actually and successfully planted in their aquariums. Why? Im getting too many answers that contradict themselves. I dont know what to believe

I have a couple of Neon Tetras in the same tank as 2 X-ray Tetras and 7 Fancy Guppies. Everytime I feed them (they get tropical fish flakes, shrimp, blood worms), the Guppies and X-ray's come to the top to eat, but the Neon's don't. What could be wrong? Why aren't they eating?

I was looking thru some of my old aquarium stuff in the garage today and found some old gravel that I remember using a few years ago. I also found my old 10 gallon and 29 gallon tanks from years and years ago. I was wondering if it was ok to boil the gravel before I put it in one of the aquariums? Will the color fade? Will it realese anything harmful? I always boil my local pea pebbles that I get out of the river but I don't know what will happen if I boil this stuff.

It seems to be the standard gravel that you could buy at Wal-mart or a chain pet store. I want to boil it because I don't remember why I took it out of the tank a few years ago. I just want to make sure that it isn't carrying any diseases before I put it in the tank.

Nano cubes are more expensive but I don't know if they are better. Any advice? I am considering both 12g and 24g sizes for a reef environment.

I have a fish tank with anacharis under a fluorescent 15 watt lamp The plants dont look that good. I bought fertilizer yesterday and so far I havent seen any improvement. Do you think that the activated carbon inside my power filter is sucking all the nutrients + the fertilizer out of the water thus starving my plants?

Hi, I have three goldfish and I was wondering what the best way is to transfer them to a different container to clean their tank. I don't have one of those green nets, so I was wondering an alternative way. I would probably prefer one that didn't cause any stress o the fish. Also, is it okay to scoop them in, say, a large cup, keep them there, and just pour it back in? Thanks in advance.

My yellow- red tailed guppy has a pink gravid spot. From my research i understand this is normal. I'm leaving in a few days and want to know if she'll be having babies within the few days. She's quite large- square in shape. Any guppy experts know the answer? She had her last batch 3(ish) weeks ago.

Well, here's the problem.

I've always wanted to get a fish, because they're cheaper, and I live in a poor but loved family. My dad said that we'll get a pet fish soon, but the problem is, I don't know what kind of fish is kind, and the sorta hyper or lazy type.
