You can only keep one male to any tank (no females with it). If you wanted to keep females, you could safely keep 5-6 in a ten gallon. If you keep them in multiples, and don't want to add all at one time, I'd start with a group of 3 and then add the other 2-3 later. You don't want to have just two females (one will be dominant and always pick on the other), but don't want to introduce singles either, which will be picked on by the others.
This would be true whether you use gravel or not. Since you should provide some plants (can be fakes) as hiding spots, since the females will pick on each other while establishing a pecking order, you might as well add the gravel.
Hopefully, you plan to use a filter and heater with it as well.

Yes you can vaccum the tank every 3 days. If you are buying males you can onlt house 1 in a tank unless you add a divider, but if your getting females then get at leat 3 amximum of 5 for your tank size.
There is another option if you want a male, this is to setup a planted tank with mild filtration and add a few other peacefuy specimens like white clouds, cory, etc .. creating a community tank.

1st)Betta fish don't want a definite water therapy. All they choose is something like aqua risk-free from tetra. This keeps the water risk-free and clorine unfastened. this form of difficulty isn't an option to apply. Your fish could die without it. 2d) sure I even have abetta fish. they are gorgeous and characteristic a exciting personalitey. they're a great first fish. third) Betta fish dont stay extremly long yet they are hardey and could shop you business enterprise for some years if properly takin care of. (they many times stay for variety of three-5 years) 4th) it incredibly is nice to in hassle-free terms feed your fish two times an afternoon with in hassle-free terms a small pinch each time. a robust rule to stay by ability of is feeding it in hassle-free terms approximately an volume as great as its eye in view it is approximately how great the fish's abdomen is. 5th) Betta fish are happy with being on my own. They probley berfer it so i could recomend it except you opt to get a girl. women are happy with residing in an area tank. (i own a girl who lives with different fish) one greater difficulty positioned your fish in a 5 gallon tank with a heater and clear out. they are greater likley to stay longer in those circumstances. Oh, alsonever positioned bettas with gourmais or male bettas with different bettas male or lady except you're an experianced breeder.

betta fish are perfectly content in a small space--10 gallons may be overkill. The most you could put in there is ONE!. Perhaps an idea would be to section your tank into 3-4 spaces with pieces of secured glass, or thick clear plastic...

You can put only one regardless if it's a male or female. The males are bigger, brighter and have the bigger tales. You can put it in a 2 or 10 gallon tank. I recommend gravel but you can always get the bigger marbles they sell in a pet supply store. Get a plant they like to hide under them, there use to living into run off of water in the rice fields of Japan.

Yes, they will fight. And as far as cleaning their tank, they only need a small tank/vase, and not a lot of maintenance- you don't even need to filter it. We've had the same betta in a 1-gallon sized aquarium for over a year. We feed it once a day (Betta pellets) and change it's water about once a month with room temperature bottled spring water. They are a simple "pet" to have, and you don't have a lot to maintain.

i guess you could do that....
you can get a divider and put it in the middle and have 2 females on one side and a male on the other..
one male with maybe a crayfish, a male with platies, a male with any thing but fast moving nippy fish. and you can do the same with about 2 females but instead of fast n nippy its slow and long fins....
or you could have aabout 3 females, that would look nice, a red one a blue one a yellowish gold one (hehe red white and blue ^.^)
or a divider and 2 males
you can put females together, females and male together but no 2 males
EDIT:
AND NO TEN GALLONS WILL NOT "OVERWHELM" THEM, THEY ARE PERFECTLY CONTENT IN ANYTHING LARGER THAN A LITTLE CUP THAT THEY COME IN, THEY WILL EVEN LIVE LONGER IN A BIGGER TANK.
ugh

DONT PUT THEM IN THE SAME CAGE?TANK!!!!!! Bata fish are also known as the chinese fighing or killing fish. There little fin things dangling off of them (on the bottom) are used to stragle there enemy. I suggest getting a glass flower pot, putting a small layer of rocks in it and water. with one bete fish. Get a small plant with plastic on the botom and get it so it fits on the top of the flower pot. Have the roots of the plant in the water so the Bata fish can hide in it. If you need helf finding a glass beta fish tank go to your pet store they should know what to do.
