Brand new aquarist here....
I've had my 180 litre tank running for nearly 2 wks now. It has 6 real tall grass like plants, 2 big rocks with hidey holes and a big plastic plant & I feel about ready to go and choose the fish now!

I really, really have my heart set on Angelfish...I know all about them and their temperament etc. etc. but my mind is set...so how does the following sound?

4 Angelfish
3 Clown loaches
1 plec
2 Sailfin mollies
2 parrot fish
2 elephant fish
8 cardinal tetras (I was told as long as they're in a shoal and the Angels are babies when I get them they should be fine!)

Obviously I won't introduce them all at the same time but I want a nice community tank with a bit of colour and interest!

Any suggestions will be much appreciated thanks!

What length do my fry need to be before I can release them into the main tank, which includes guppies, neon tetras, black neon tetras and a celebes rainbow without them being eaten. Telling me as long as they don't fit in the other fishes mouth isn't helpful, by the time I know they can fit, one will have been eaten. So I'm looking for a size, the celebes rainbow is around 2 and a half inches at the most

I am looking around just-now to try and find a small coldwater fish tank that is cheap but good quality. Could someone recommend a good manufacturer and/or a store where I can get one. I have seen one in argos at £49.99 but not sure if its a really cheap make or not. Here is the link:

Thanks

PS. I live in North-East Scotland

First, it's always appealed to my mom and I to get a koi pond in the backyard, and now that we're getting a sun room there's even more of an incentive. But how do we go about digging the space for one if we have a gas line in the yard?
And secondly, my grandparents have a koi pond and their fish are now huge. Our backyard is fairly good-sized for the suburbs, but still pretty small. Is it OK to make the pond smaller (around 3'x5') or will they get too big?

My whitecloud minnows challenges each other, one came near to one with a trembling motion flattering its fins and then knock the other minnow while the other escape quickly. Are they having a fight? Is this safe? And some eat more than the others (who haven't realize there's food), do you have any solution to this?

I have a 10 gallon tank. Water is clear and (just tested it today) the water is good. I have 4 small fish. 3 goldfish and a algea eater. The filter is good and I have a medium size air pump with a 12 inch long bubbler bubbling away. Everything seems to be in order and well except they are all hanging out at the bottom of the tank. Any ideas why that is? Usually they are pretty active and always swiiming around. One of my goldfish (is freckled tabby colored) is young and has red colors\splotches appearing on his body, not on his fins. Is that normal as they grow?

I have my female platy in the breeding tank and her previous babies in the bottom of the breeding fish hatchery ( not the platys she is going to have now) , i put her in the breeding tank sunday evening, i am concerned for the space of the baby platys, there are 7 of them and are not crowded but will they be okay?
The pregnant female has a large gravid spot, and i can see the eyes of the fry exceptionally clearly, she looks as though she is going to pop, she still is eating well and seems reasonably active, she as been under very little stress but a bit more on sunday evening. Now she is relaxed and being fed well, and the fry eyes are very clear , surley she cant be long ?
How long do you think ?
Shall i put her back in the main tank?
What is the minimum and maximum length of time it will take now ?

p.s _ please answer every question for me - many thanks danny.

I know all animals need down time to rest etc (probably escpecially at night, as these are not nocturnal type fish).. and the bubbler seems to be fairly loud from even across the room. Isn't sound amplified for them underwater as it is? I'm not an expert at all, so any advice is welcomed.

I just bought a 75 gallon tank and after it is done cycling i was wondering what to stock it with. There are about 5 or 6 fish that i have always wanted but i dont know if they would all get along or even fit in that size tank. The main fish I would like to have are a lionfish, bursa trigger, heniochus butterfly, coral beauty, and blue hippo tang. I would like to have some of these to use as the center peice of the tank with other smaller fish to fill in the tank. Please let me know what would be the best choices and which ones would get along because I am very sure that they dont all get along.

Also, where do you recommend i buy light fixtures and bulbs? (i am not a beginner at salwater, i8 have had a 55 gallon marine aquarium for 6 years, but i am new to reef)

Why do people seem to take the attitude that fish are merely decorations and don't need a proper environment in which to live their lives?

Fish need quite a lot of care and attention and should be regarded as a hobby rather than just another pet.

Fish can feel suffering and pain just as other animals can and I just wish that people would take the responsibility of keeping a fish more seriously.

If you are thinking of getting a fish then please make sure that it has a decent sized tank to live in and a filtration system in order to keep the water clean and healthy. It is a fallacy that fish can just put up with frequent water changes and enjoy swimming around in chlorine and other nasty chemicals each week!

A filtration system is cheap and easy to run and maintain and will make a huge difference to the health and wellbeing of the fish! Undergravel filters hardly cost anything to buy and maintain if you just want something cheap and simple.

Fish have feelings too!

I noticed that when my Texas Cichlid fought with my Jack Dempsey, the JD was badly injured. A big part of it's right side was badly damaged with flesh being shown and dots of red in the area. After a few hours a protective layer was formed. That nearly looked like a bubble. I understand that this layer is made because of the surrounding water will not get to the wound. So it will ultimately heal quicker and properly. But what is this layer made of, if there is a name of it, i would love to hear that. Then I could research it myself.

Thank You
