I have my female platy in the breeding tank and her previous babies in the bottom of the breeding fish hatchery ( not the platys she is going to have now) , i put her in the breeding tank sunday evening, i am concerned for the space of the baby platys, there are 7 of them and are not crowded but will they be okay?
The pregnant female has a large gravid spot, and i can see the eyes of the fry exceptionally clearly, she looks as though she is going to pop, she still is eating well and seems reasonably active, she as been under very little stress but a bit more on sunday evening. Now she is relaxed and being fed well, and the fry eyes are very clear , surley she cant be long ?
How long do you think ?
Shall i put her back in the main tank?
What is the minimum and maximum length of time it will take now ?

p.s _ please answer every question for me - many thanks danny.

" The pregnancy will last from 4 to 6 weeks depending on the temperature and the brood size will be up to as many as 80. Unlike many other live bearers Platies are unlikely to eat their own fry especially with a lot of plant cover available. But to minimise the risk the male should be removed after a couple of weeks and the female once she has given birth.

The fry are very easy to raise and will accept crushed flake right away, but better growth rates will be achieved if you go to the trouble of using newly hatched brine shrimps for their first food. As the fry grow they will need regular water changes in order to maintain good growth and eventually they will need moving into larger quarters. Between 8 to 12 weeks the fry should be big enough to sell. "

Theres not likely a topic including your platies giving start, have they had fry earlier? maximum fry get eaten except your tank is heavily planted which will provide them places to conceal. and there is no way of combating your platies from having fry except you're taking the male out even then they could proceed to have little ones an prolonged together as after his removing. yet once you do have some fry and that they stay to tell the tale long adequate to realize a respectable length a small save could purchase them off yet wont supply you lots for them.

first of all the gestation period is 28 days with all livebearers

If you put her to early into the breeder she might aport her fry

and never put a pregnant fish into a breeder where older fry's are in, because the bigger ones will kill the new ones

you can do 3 things

If your other fry are already bigger then the biggest mouth of your fish in the maintank, put them in there
or
Get another tank where you put the female in to give birth with lots of liveplants for the fry to hide, which will function as a breeding tank
or
get lots of live plants like anubis for the bottom and water sprite for the surface and let your female have her fry in the main tank

what is a platy? is it a platypus? If it is a platypus tell me how much they cost at kamramtemaster17@aim.com. Sorry, i just am obseesed with platypuses. And for your question, i would go on a local pet store site, some have animal behavior pages, or search it on google.com or ask.com. I would recommend ask.com, it is more appropriate. Oh, a platy is a fish. sorry1
