I have a question about my fish fry. Firstly...I have 15 and more on the way (proud mum!) but they are in a tank with eggs which werent fertilised.
How do i know if those eggs will be fungusy, some of them are grey?!?
Also, from when can i start feeding them if they hatch on different days?
When should i start changing the water?
How long until they are travel worthy?
I have shubunkins.
Iv tried to look it up but i dont get much though google!
Also, what would people reccomend to make the tank look nicer in the main tank?
Its bare at the moment cuz i had flourescent gravel and the fish went gaga so im not sure what to do.
Also i had water cress sold to me by the store which was rubbish, what plants do you reccomend that arnt going to rot in the water like mine did?
I live in the UK so advise about decent stores would be good.! Thanks

Anybody used this bulbs for their aquariums?

http://www.petco.com/product/11440/Coralife-Mini-Compact-Fluorescent-50-or-50-Bulb.aspx

Btw, what does 50/50 mean and what is the difference between this and the regular ones part from the price?

One more thing, what kind of hood would I need to house a couple of these bulbs. say... 5 of them

A few weeks ago, the upper part of my oranda's tail is shredded in the center near the base. I didn't know what caused it so I added salt and observed the fish for a few days. There was no fighting and all the other fish is fine. A couple days ago I noticed that the upper part of the oranda's tail is getting shorter and shorter. Is it ill? What do I need to do?

Hello, I have a 10 gallon aquarium. I was thinking about getting some live plants. Any suggestions for this size tank?

Also, does anyone know of a good website about live plants? Thank you!

::Details::
-10 gallon tank
-8 cory catfish (paleatus & julii)
-2 dwarf platy
-1 small sucker fish
-Black Tahitian Moon Sand
-Natural slate and a live plant
-20 gallon filter by Aquaclear
-Bubble wall for aeration
-Heater
--Haven't added any kind of chemicals or medications to the water other than a dechlorinator.
--There is no background on the tank.
I was changing the water and so forth recently, and when I took water out of the tank, it was literally a blue tint. So I know something has to be turning it this color, be it algae or a chemical in the water or something, I just don't know what. I've had this tank set up for about a year, I redid it last summer, replacing gravel with sand so the catfish would be more comfortable and changing out fake decorations with slate and real plants =]

My fish do not seem harmed by the colored water, they seem to have become a little too happy in the last month and I am now the proud owner of two brand new Julii cory cats, born in the tank =]

I took out the hood/top of the tank and I put the fluorescent lamp directly on the fish tank. It seems that its brighter than before. I put the light where no water can splash into it due to the airstone. Is it still dangerous? My fish never jumped before. Evaporation doesnt seem like an issue to me and my tank is brighter than ever.

P.S. I cleaned the glass from the fish tank top but even that the glass is crystal clear, it seems dimmer than without it.

My convict fry is about 2 - 3 weeks old and they are still in the tank with their parents.
I took the cave out they spawned in so that it might delay their next spawn.

They are still looking after the broad but i was wondering 2 things

1) how long will it be before they spawn again.
2) when they get a little larger i was gonna put them in my community tank with my platys guppies and neons, will they be ok in here.

I was at a fish store yesterday when I noticed all the tanks had what appeared to be a slice of lemon or possibly orange in them. Most were totally eaten, some the fish were busy biting away at. Has anyone heard of doing this? Is it good for the fish? I have 3 large goldfish that would probably love it, but I wanted to hear some feedback first!

I have 7 marble mollies, 3 girls and 4 boys, (babies in a breeding net), one of the male mollies is swimming to the top of the water and looks like what appears to be eating or gasping or something. His mouth is at the top rim of the water almost like he wants out. His favorite position seems to be next to the glass and breeding net. He doesn't look ill or anything and he eats.No other fish join him and he's there for at least 30 min of every hour.

My sister got some fish a few weeks ago a black shark with a orange tail 2 neon teras two female guppies and a sucker fish..
First her shark killed one of her neon tetras and then last night we put one of her guppies back in the tank( we had it out in a different tank breeding it with a male of mine) when we looked the next morning she was dead! does anyone know why its doing this? it only let the neon tera thats left near its tank and didnt let any other fish near it.

I've been fishkeeping for a short period of time. And I noticed I get a skin reaction to my hands due to dechlorinator or other med related products put into the fish tank water. I've been to various pet shops in my city looking for long arm plastic gloves for tanks, but none are available/they've never had it. I would like to know if I purchased brandnew rubber gloves (like those used for kitchens), would that be safe for the fish?

I know rubber and plastic have chemicals, so I'm not sure what to do at this point. I have not used gloves at all, I wash my hands with water thoroughly, however, given my skin allergies...I have to find a way to put my hands in the tank with gloves...and I do not want to kill a fish due to any type of gloves.

Feedback on what I should is appreciated. I've been told to use sterilized med gloves, but they are very short for a tank.

Thanks

what can I use to get rid of that white chalky/salty looking build up on the tank top. It doesnt come off with anything I have used and looks nasty, it also builds up to form like a crusty mess on the outside of the tank. The tank is freshwater, tropical fish.

My betta is in a 5 gallon tank. He was in a smaller bowl before, and I didnt want the transition from his bowl water, to a tank with clean water to be too rough, so I put about half of his "dirty" water in the new tank. It was clear in his bowl, but its cloudy in the tank, is it just settling? or should I empty the tank half way and add all new water?

I feed him those betta pellets from the pet store. He gets fed twice a day. about how many pellets should he get? I give him about 5 or 6 each time. I dont want to over feed him but I dont want to underfeed him either. If he eats them fast, I add a couple more. Is that okay?

His tank is on my dresser and theres a big mirror behind it. I know they hate other bettas so will seeing the betta in the mirror constantly, drive him nuts? Should I put something behind his tank so he cant see the mirror?

finally, the tank has a light. should I use it during the day, or will it annoy him? I dont want to freak him out.
