ok so ive had my fish tank and fish since jan this yr. i had i little problem with ick in march but sorted all that out and my tanks been doing brillient since. it was only the other day that i was bragging how well theyve been doing. anyway i woke up this morning to find 4 fish dead, and a couple look like there on there way out. the tank feels really warm to touch and the water is really warm to, the thermometer isnt reading anythink, im thinking because the water is that warm its gone over scale on the thermometer. wot do i do? are the fish dying because of the heat of the water? has the temp of the water gone up because the heater is broke? please help i dont want any more fish to die.

He seems to have difficulty floating upwards, so he just kindaa drags his body along the bottom. With alot of effort he can get a couple inches off the bottom, but then just goes back down. The water was changed a few days ago and he's acted fine up until today.

(I'm not sure the exact species of fish, but some kind of Cyprinid similar to a goldfish, only fatter)

My fish has been swimming/floating upside down for a while then he will swim erratically all over the place. Sometimes the fish will be floating straight up and down. It is weird. He has not eaten for days because he can't seem to get focused enough to eat the food. I don't know if I can do anything to help or is this normal for a dying beta fish? He has lived for about 4 years.

I'm hoping to breed guppies and if it works I was wondering if I have to crunch the flakes up a lot smaller so the babys can actually suck it in?

Why do they sell them in teeny tiny bowls, and then sell tiny bowls for you to keep them in? I feel so bad for bettas every time I see them in their tiny little jail cells at the pet stores. They look so bored and I've seen alot of them with barely enough room to turn around. I could *maybe* understand the pet stores doing it to save space (that still doesnt make it right), but then they sell those little bowls to keep them in.. There must be a reason for it so why does everyone do it?

I have a group of 6 mollies (4 females, 2 males) I have 1 male and female dalmatian mollies, 1 male and female black mollies, and 2 female silver mollies. None of the males take too much intrest in my silver fish.

Which brings me to my question.... all my fish are playful and active, but one of my females is EXTREMELY shy! She is a slow swimmer and hangs back from the group, hiding in corners. She is healthy. Whenever I feed, all my fish are active in eating, but she doesn't really eat. When she gets near the top, I try to sneak her some food, but she never sees it. HELP! I don't want her to starve! I only have a 1 gallon bowl that is empty, and she wouldn't live well in that........

PLEASE HELP!!!!

If it is so bad to have very agressive fish in a small tank why do pet stores do it. If you go to petco you see 15 african cichlids in probably a 5-10 gallon tank. How do pet stores like petco prevent deaths in these situations. I never see dead fish at petco. Not that this question is important, I was just wondering. I had 10 africans in a 100 gallon and 2 died because of a territorial yellow lab. I have no idea how pet stores do it.

okay on the spur of the moment i had to upgrade tank size. so i took most of the water from the 10 gallon and a ornament and put it in the new 20 gallon. i set up the 10 gallon for a green spotted puffer which i cant find a stone who hads them (newark delaware). so i added the rest of the water from the tap and put in proper amount of aqua safe and "cycle" to help mature the bacteria cycle proces. i have fluval 2 plus filter which i used a couple years ago for my RES. i also have a air pump and heater set to 78-80 i have blue rams, corys, gouramis, tetras, and livevears. the water is pretty cloudy in the 20 and the 10 (has no fish in it yet) is crystal clear. the fish seem fine but i dont like it being that cloudy. i know moving the fish to a non cycled tank is a no no but i sort had to. should i just let it run and it will clear up? also is my filter okay?

I haven't used to pool at all this year. I've supershlorinated it a few times. Also, I have introduced anti-mosquito chemicals. Can I tell what type of frog the tadpole will become? I have 5 captured in a Mason Jar and can get a very good look at them. Two legs have already formed. There are about 100-200 of them in the pool.

Well, my betta got what I thought was dropsy (and I am still fairly certain it is!) , and became extremely bloated. She was at least 3x the size of her former self. All the dropsy signs- fluid filled bloating, sitting front down, not eating, scales pineconing. Since I don't have the heart to euthanize, and there is really nothing to lose, I treated her with maracyn 2, epsom salt baths, tetracycline and a few other things. Nothing worked! This has been going on for weeks, maybe a month.

HOWEVER! Tonight, she had completely 'deflated'! I went to look at her, and she is only slightly bloated, and much more normal looking. She swims around excitedly and happy now, and the poor thing even ate a flake food I gave her.

Do you think she could have just been constipated and became 'unblocked' or is this something that eventually happens to Dropsy fish? She has no open wounds, there is no sign of trauma to any part of her. Anyone have this happen to them?

My boyfriend and I started a 55 gallon tank about a month ago. We set it up properly and have all of the bio levels correct (Ph is 7.0, Amonia is 0, Nitrates and Nitrites are 0) The temp is 80degrees and the filters have been replaced once, but not the bio wheels. We have about a dozen neon tetras , a few larger gouramis, 2 plecos and 3 snails. We had a tetra die 2 days ago, so i took it back to the pet store and they replaced it for free. Since noon today I had another tetra die, and 2 of the gouramis die also. The two larger fish seemed to slow down over the last few days, but the tetras are harder to tell b/c there are so many. I have picked the brain of the fish store manager, and have had no luck. Any ideas as to why my fish are dying? help me!!

My apple snail is often found lying upside down on the back of its shell. Do they have the strength to turn themselves over or do they need to be assisted all the time? It's hard to tell if it needs help or if it is just sleeping. That handy site http://www.applesnail.net doesn't seem to talk about the helplessness of these creatures. I am wondering if anybody else has had the same experience.

O.K. I've had my betta for about two months. Everything has been going fine, he was eating well and making bubble nests; untill I cleaned his bowl yesterday. I did nothing different than I normally do, but he tries to eat then spits it out, andhe's lazy, and he hasn't even started to build a nest. Is he sick? If so, is there a way to make him better?
