Dude i had the same problem last year. I got some good advice.. i hope this helps... i lost over five hundred dollars in fish.. this works the best use the smallest bottle of water you can find and freeze them ..... depends on the size or you tank so it will be try and error... set the frozen bottle of water in your tank... i use to but ice in the water filter but didn't really work but the frozen bottle of waters work like a charm it dropped... but make sure not to drop the temperature to fast or your fish will go into shock......... good luck

Place a fan facing the tank to blow air across the water surface to cause rippling Or use a pc cooling fan (12 volt) and run lots of air with big bubbles through the water, lower the heater temps as far as you are brave enough to go. There will be some evaporation but the water temp should stay in the safe region.

completely turn off and unplug the heater. that happened to mine too, then i realized that unless my room is freezing the heater does not need to be on. and since i unplugged my heated my tank has been at a cool 70 degrees, before that i hit as high as 83 degrees

Run your AC 24/7 is one method

buy a fan and blow it directly onto your tank is another

buying an aquarium chiller is another, but extremly expensive

But never put any icecubes in your tanks itself

Turn your heater completely back is one more

Hope that helps
Good luck
