This isn't something you'll be likely to do in an aquarium, simply because of the size that would be needed to house multiple fish. This forum thread mentions a source for an attempted aquarium spawning, and methods used by a person who uses a pond for spawing Alligator gars: http://www.aquaticpredators.com/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t18977.html

alligator gars breeding?

are u trying to do it at home? or just in general.

Here is a sip from wiki

Though the alligator gar prefers slow-moving waters, it appears to need running water in order to spawn. Spawning occurs in May-Aug, when the fish deposit their eggs in shallow water. The female swims up stream with an escort of 200,000 or more males.

The rest can be found here.

But dont forget that alligator gars are the largest species of gar and need about 500 gallons.
