I used one once and it nearly killed my fish with to much food, shall I risk it again?

The make water very cloudy, they actually offer very little protein or food, to me there not worth it, but if your leaving for just a few days they will be fine, I have heard of people leaving freshwater fish for 10+ days and they were fine, now I would suggest the block if you use them all the time, but if you leave quite a bit an investment in an automatic feeder would be logical. But I would never use holiday block again after my experience!

Those feeding blocks are terrible. Much of the block isn't even food! All it does is dissolve and pollute your water (rapidly changing your water parameters). Also, unused blocks quickly mold and become useless. Even better than an automatic feeder (what happens if it falls in the tank?!) is a friendly neighbor who can come by and feed your fish while you are gone. Just be sure to brief them on how much food to feed each time (maybe a measured container for each day).

Hi, Holiday blocks for the most part do more harm than good. So don't waist your time and money on them. If you are trying to feed your fish why'll you are away. Get yourself a automatic feeder that you can load with flakes or freeze dried food. They are well worth the money.

If you are only gone for a few days, you can get by without feeding goldfish. If you will be gone for several weeks, those blocks are worthless in many ways. Instead, invest in an automatic feeder that dispenses a pre-determined amount of food each day.

They're a nightmare! Don't go anywhere near them - they seriously foul the water and you can't measure how much food the fish are getting. They're also of a very poor quality material.

No, you can't monitor the water parameters while you are away. Its best to let them go without food for up to two weeks.
