i got some live plants for my 5gallon betta tank the other day .]
i got one small amazon sword
2 foxtail things
and one other small plant that is green and red.
i updated my lighting because the guy at my fish store said they would grow like crazy with the compact flourescant bulb (its ten watts) for my 5 gallon hex.

my bettas only tank mate is one snail.

do i need to add anything to make more carbon dioxide for my plants? or will they be fine?

thanks

I have heard of romaine lettuce (which is in my tank right now), zucchini, spinach and brussel sprouts. I have also heard of green peas (without the shell) and broccoli also.

Has anyone else had any luck with some other type of vegetables? Some of my otos are looking pale and losing their color/stripe, they don't really go for the algae wafers, so I thought maybe some blanched veggies would be best.

I keep a 10 gallon tank with 4 guppies, 3 females and 1 male, 4 neon tetras and 2 black tetras. I recently noticed a problem with what appears to be ich, some of the fish have small white spots predominantly on their fins but some on their bodies aswell and some were thrashing their bodies off the gravel. I began dosing for this using Interpet Aquarium Treatment #6. I then began noticing some of the fish had become darkened around the body and mouth as if by ammonia burning. Having tested my water levels and finding them ok I don't know what's causing this. Also 1 of the female guppies appears to be heavily pregnant and her spine has become curved towards the end of her body, is this natural in the latter stages of pregnancy or is it a broken back from thrashing off the bottom? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

it is floating on the top of the bowl and a part of its side or stomach is outside the water, I poked him lightly and he didn't move but his eyes are moving and he is breathing. I poked him again and he swam a bit but now he is back floating on his side. Could he be bloated? What do I do?

I've seen many a post on why they kill each other, but I have a beta and it looks like a floppy, soft, squishy thing. No teeth, spines, weapons, etc. How do they kill?

Right now I have a 10 gallon with 1 betta, 3 cory cats, and 5 neon tetras. Also have a heater, thermometer, filter, and air stone. Ornaments include: fake rock setup, 3 fake plants, and some gravel.

If I were to get a 20 gallon, what would I need to do in order to safely house my fish from the 10 gallon? I'll definately need more gravel and water. I know I shouldn't just dump my old gravel and water in and then put new gravel and water in because it would have to cycle first. What are your suggestions? What other aquatic animals could I add? Plants? Thanks to all that answer!

i ask the petsmart manger if i could put my betta fish close to the mirror and this is what she answer:

I suggest not putting your Betta near a mirror if he seems to be aggitated(puffing up).
Male bettas are very aggressive toward their territory. They aren't mean, that's just the way they are. But, that does not mean that they can't be less aggressive than other bettas. Some bettas are calm and mellow. Other are EVIL!!! Some people think that bettas are that way because they are kept in small spaces and get all freaked out.

Ok, so I'm a little confused here. I've heard a lot of people say that you need 1 gallon of water per inch of fish. Then I've heard don't put this fish in this tank cause they will get too big for the tank. But, I've also heard that a fish won't outgrow the tank. They will only grow to the size the tank will allow. So, what is actually right? Or are all these statements true? If so, using a pleco as an example, then why couldn't you put a small pleco in a ten gallon tank? He won't get too big for the tank, right? I'm not trying to be flippant or argumentative. Just trying to figure out how this all works.

So...yeah. After I fed Icabod and Sparrow today, I noticed that Icabod's tail seemed to be getting shorter. I've come to the conclusion that he has tail rot. (I know, I know. I AM ashamed of myself.) Anyway, I can't get to the local fish store today to get any meds because, for some weird reason, they aren't open on Mondays. My question is this: How long will my betta be ok with fin rot? Of course, I'm going to get his medicine as soon as possible, but if I have to order it over the internet (in the event that the fish store doesn't have it.), delivery takes about a week or almost 2, would he still be ok?

I have a 5 gallon hex tank with a male Mickey Mouse platy, and 2 neon tetras. The male mickey mouse platy was pretty agressive towards other platies when he was in the same tank with them. Now I'm wanting to add a couple more fish to this tank. Any good ideas on any that would get along with what I have in there already? I was considering a Pleco as one for sure.
