So...yeah. After I fed Icabod and Sparrow today, I noticed that Icabod's tail seemed to be getting shorter. I've come to the conclusion that he has tail rot. (I know, I know. I AM ashamed of myself.) Anyway, I can't get to the local fish store today to get any meds because, for some weird reason, they aren't open on Mondays. My question is this: How long will my betta be ok with fin rot? Of course, I'm going to get his medicine as soon as possible, but if I have to order it over the internet (in the event that the fish store doesn't have it.), delivery takes about a week or almost 2, would he still be ok?

He will be ok for a day until you can get to the pet store. Any pet supply place ( including Walmart, Petco etc ) will have what you need for curing fin rot. Basically any decent antibiotic will do the trick, Maracyn, Maracyn 2, Maracyn TC (tetracycline), Furanace, Furan-2, heck, evey Jungle labs Fungus eliminator will usually take care of fin rot. So even if your favorite store is closed, you should be able to get the meds your fish needs. and if you do have to wait a day, that will be ok too.

2 weeks is too long however. Odds are good it would be into his body and beyond saving by then.

No medicine needed. A teaspoon of salt with a 100% water change. Feed less and change water more, the betta will thank you with long flowing fins.
I have noticed though when betta fish get around 2 or 3 years old the tail does loose some of its luster and length. If the fish is eating and acting normal otherwise I wouldn't medicate at all. The med could very likely cause more damage to the fish.
Fin rot is usually due to stress. Fish stress when they have to live in ammonia too long. That's why changing the water and cleaning the bowl is so important for the betta. He has no filter or bio-logical system in a bowl. You must provide all the clean water though water changes, that means you cannot be slack in your water changing schedule. If you have been changing the water once a week try twice a week and see if the fish doesn't do better on his own. I hate to use the medicine crutch. Over medicating is a huge factor when treating bowls as well. You never ever want to over medicate, that will kill the fish long before the fin rot ever will.
Fin rot is almost always a sign of poor water quality.

when you consider which you have him in a bowl, the rotting is maximum probable led to via grimy water. Get him a ideal tank with a heater and clear out to help stay away from this interior the destiny. so a great way as what to do top now, i've got got here across that drugs for fin rot are not too efficient with bettas and can now and back do greater injury than good. What i've got accomplished interior the previous is at modern-day take out 50% of the water on a similar time as vaccuuming all your gravel. while making waiting your alternative water, upload a million tablespoon of aquarium salt in step with gallon of water on your tank (the full tank, no longer purely the 50% alternative water). From then on, do on a regular basis 20% water adjustments, changing the aquarium salt thus (e.g., a million tablespoon in step with gallon of water you're changing). save your tank VERY sparkling in this technique. Feed sparingly and at modern-day take out any food that's no longer eaten. additionally do no longer rigidity your fish out in this time - do no longer use a internet on him, no loud noises, do no longer arise close and stare at him if that makes him flare.

Fin rot is a quick killer. Check your local large department store, they can sometimes carry a wide selection of pet goods. Check your larger grocery stores too, sometimes you'll find the oddest things in their pet sections.

If you use aquarium salt and a heater add more salt and turn the heat up.

Are you sure one isn't nipping the others fins?
