Odds are high your fish has an internal bacterial infection causing the spasms. This problem is unfortunately untreatable so yes, humane euthanasia would be the best solution at this point. Here's some info on how best to do that:

Nothing to worry about, that's just probably a little bladder problem/infection. Just add a little aquarium salt and he should be fine. One of my guppies and platies was doing the same thing, but a little salt and he was good as new in a few hours.

First, get a test kit and test the PH in your tank. You can get them at any pet store or even in some department stores like Meijer or Wal-Mart. Get the type that comes WITH the solution to raise or lower the PH just in case you have to do that, and read the instructions carefully.

Yup, he's a goner. You might not want to replace him for a few weeks, just to make sure the rest of your tank isn't going to get sick.
