i had 2 silver sharks which i found dead this morning and cannot figure out why. i know they are skinned fish as apposed to scaled and are sensitive to water quality changes but my water has always been perfect. so, any suggestions as to why they died? i do have a large crayfish but the sharks have always been in there with him and had no marks at all on there bodies

I noticed what I guess is ick on my platy yesterday afternoon. I started the Ick drops in the tank for my female dwarf platy last night (she's in there by herself). She still looks the same as last night. How soon does that medicine start working? She's pregnant too and now I'm worried she won't make it and if she does will the fry be okay? Also after getting home from the store with the ick medicine I noticed some white gunk on her eyeballs that wasn't there before I went to the store. Is that ick too or is that something else like a fungus?

What are the differences in filters and which would work best in my tank? I have a 30 gal tank and the current filter (hangs on the tank) has started to leak a little. I would like to change it out but don't really know about filters nowdays. What is a bio wheel? Do you have a particular brand that you really like or don't like? Do the hanging on the back of the tank filters vary in amount of upkeep? Do they all work the same?

I'll be buying fish for my tank today. I'm planning on getting some guppies, neons, cory cats, maybe some ghost shrimp and I might get a betta. Sound like a good combination? I won't be buying them all today - but that's the plan for the tank. I have a hex 30 gal tank. With the above listed fish - what amount of fish total am I looking at? Anything else I should add? I live in Florida and inside house temp is always around 75-78 degrees. Will I still need a heater? What plants should I get? Do I need real plants or will fake plants be just as good for the fish to hide in? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

........ Do you go for the biggest of the bunch?
........ Do you get the small cute ones?
........ Do you just pick the prettiest?
........ Or do you bring the funny-looking (possibly sickly) one home, because you feel sorry for him/her?

This could refer to anything from goldfish to Oscars, to bettas. I've bought fish for every reason listed above, at least once. Do you feel the biggest in a specific breed's tank is the strongest and healthiest? Do you feel the smallest are just babies and will live the longest, therefore you get them for that reason?

What reasons have you used for getting specific fish?
Tell me your techniques to picking and buying fish!

The most thought-prevoked answer will get the points!!!
Thanks in advance for your answers!

Hi! I'm thinking about getting a few ghost shrimp for my 55 gallon tank, but really I know nothing about them...

1. Are they benificial to such a large tank?
2. What do they eat?
3. How many should I get for them to prosper?
4. Will my opaline gouramis or Betta girls eat them?
5. Can they withstand high ph? (Last checked, mine's at 8.2)
6. Are there better varieties of shrimp that I should consider instead?

I saw them at the shop last time, and thought about getting them, but didn't since I know nothing about them...

Thanks for your answers!

Hey Everyone!

I am planning to get 2 more fish at the end of summer. I have a 10 gallon tank with 2 cherry barbs and 2 cories. I was planning to get more of my current fish. Do you think I should get one more cory and one more cherry barb so it is almost a school? If you have any suggestion on either cherry barbs or cories, please plug them on you answer. Thank you.

The female Gourami brought recently (1 male - 1 female). Hasnt eaten for days and just "lies around" sometimes on the floor of the tank some times floating near the top - for hours. She seems to be vertical still, but its getting worse. Im not sure if shes "pregnant" but she kepts "chewing" all the time, (not the gills just the mouth) im doing a water change now to reduce a possible high nitrate level but i dont think thats the cause. I have 2 angel fish, 1 other Gourami and a few smaller fish which seem to be fine. ANY IDEAS please help. I've not lost any fish in 6 months and dont want to start now, well unless you count 2 eaten shrimp. Kind regards mark.

Ok, so I was thinking about my 2 betta fish last night. They're both in unfiltered 2 gallon tanks. I decided that (if it was possible) I'd like to start growing real plants in their tanks. They would probably enjoy it. So my question is just this. How exactly do you grow them? I know nothing about this subject, so I need some help! If you know any good sites about this, or you have a planted tank yourself, could you please share some information with me?

Thanks! =]
